“It was rough my first week getting my feet wet,” Thornton said this past Sunday after making his Kingdom League debut at Ohio Dominican University. “But everybody comes together being very cohesive, connecting together. The bond is just great, I love my team no matter what. The season didn’t even start but I already love them. I feel like we’ve got big things ahead of us.

“The toughest part is just everyday consistency, making sure you go hard every single day. That’s a big main thing. But when you get your feet wet, you understand it’s a business. So when you take it as a business, you have great success.”

“It was just the conditioning, the weights, just the every day making sure you’re on the schedule making sure you’re tight on everything you do,” Thornton said. “That’s a big thing that Ohio State preaches. It really helped me get my feet wet. This is my fourth week here, just understanding what you have to do every single day and bring your best every day.”

“It’s been fun. I’ve had some ups and downs of being new, getting used to the workouts and everything,” Thornton said. “As a freshman, you really don’t know. You’re just going and then you realize that you’re hurting in your core, in your legs, and trying to figure out why you’re hurting so bad and can’t get up. It’s just the struggles you have to go through as a freshman. I’m thankful for the summer, that helped me deal with that and build a foundation.”

While recovering from high-intensity practices has been a focus of his on the basketball court, time management has become one of the more prevalent learning curves for him since he arrived in Columbus.

“You have to make sure you get your work done early, so you don’t have to worry about it later,” Thornton said. “The second thing (I’ve learned) is to not procrastinate. The next thing you know, you’ve got three or four assignments due at one time, so just making sure you do things at the right time so you don’t have to worry about it.”

Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said he expects Thornton will have a major role on the Buckeyes this season and that he’ll see the court a considerable amount as a freshman.

With heightened expectations entering his first season as a Buckeye, Thornton acknowledged that there is still some work left to improve his game but noted that he understands the importance of his role with this team.

“I feel like I still have some work to do. My teammates are helping me every day, my coaches are helping me every day, so I can become a better player every single day,” Thornton said. “I feel like during the season, I have to have some impact for us to win.”

The second thing (I’ve learned) is to not procrastinate.

I was great at procrastinating. Assignments that I really didn't like (i.e. especially writing English composition papers) I'd put off until the last night. Needless to say my English grades reflected my effort (or lack there of) too....
