PG Anthony Crater (transfer to South Florida & Georgetown College)

Ridiculous. He was by and far the most talented point on this team. There was a very good chance that he would have taken over the starting role by the end of the season. And he leaves before conference play even begins? It makes literally no sense. He forfeits what was at least an opportunity to get the starting role this season just so that he can sit out for what will virtually be 2 years. What an unbelievable sense of entitlement that must take. But it's better we found out now. The less players like that on the team the better.

Anthony's (Fordham's) decision to transfer seems like its mainly based on the fact that OSU's style of play/ his PT didn't showcase his talent enough for the NBA scouts.

It seemed to work okay for Mike Conley. :roll1:

I think it's been said before, but we were a much more uptempo team with Oden, Conley, and Cook. Conley averaged 31 minutes per game while Crater averaged 13. Also, I think in a couple years Anthony could have been comparable to Conley, but at least in his short freshman campaign, Anthony did not have many Conley-like moments.

For AC to leave at this point is a shot in the foot to..AC. To leave after one season is one thing. To leave after nine games is suicide. Some news to Fordham and whoever else is advising AC, you just screwed the kid. Alot of DIV I schools will shy away from him because YOU AND OTHERS have made the kid tainted goods. I kinda feel bad for AC because all these people thinking he is NBA material and telling him so, set him up for failure.

In a couple of years Anthony could have been comparable to Conley? That is a tough, tough call but I must respectfully disagree. The first and foremost thing is the individual's dedication to the program. Conley stuck around for one year and went to the NBA. But while he was here, he was a total team player. Conley played with intelligence, skill and speed. His Achillies Heel was, and still is, his outside shot. On the other hand AC, while liked by his teammates and I'm sure his intent was to be a great teammate. A GREAT teammate does not leave 9 games in to his freshman season UNLESS it's a family situation. AC did not show the same command on the floor Conley did, his outside shot was even worse than Conley's, and Conley dribbled with his head up not down like AC did most of the time.

While not a knock on Anthony's mother, why is it being reported that Anthony's mother called Thad and told him Anthony wanted released from his LOI? That is plain wrong.

If the reports of his mother being involved are true, and I guess that's a big "IF", but if so, then someone got visions of $$$ and lost patience. I'm not sure if Noop would ever become an NBA player, but this choice will not help that cause. It only makes it more difficult.

Bob Baptist reported on the Dispatch Hoops Scoops blog that Crater is scheduled to visit South Florida (Crater will attend a USF game) and Baylor.
Now that would be interesting if John Wall decided to go to Baylor. I think Anthony better go to South Florida before he sees more pine.

Transferred to South Florida. Will he be "half-n-done" for them? :tongue2:

I'd imagine this has been a reality check for Anthony. A lot of the programs he was rumored to be interested in, said "no thanks".

I'm not sure transferring to a Big East bottom feeder will improve his NBA potential much.

Good luck to him all the same. Mostly, I hope he begins getting good advice from the adults in his life.

I don't see how his year at Brewster didn't clue him in to reality. He had many games where he was basically a non-factor. His numbers at Brewster were obviously way different than in Michigan...basically giving me an indication that he would actually be a program guy! (i.e. he wasn't good enough to be gone real quickly) But, yeah, even after a few games at Ohio State...to leave. Yo, Noopy, look at Buford and Mullens. They were even more big-time than you, and they aren't ready to jet for the dollars.

I think Evan Turner was thinking that he was Derrick Rose's equal also, but it just isn't true...a lot of these guys need to wake up.

Enough rambling...some more humility, please. Bye, Noop. Hardly knew ya.

Former Ohio State guard to transfer to South Florida men's basketball team
By Greg Auman, Times Staff Writer
Sunday, January 4, 2009

TAMPA ? Friday night's 59-54 loss to No. 13 Syracuse was a near miss for USF, but coach Stan Heath got something big out of the game. Former Ohio State guard Anthony Crater, who attended the game with his mother, has decided to join the Bulls as a midyear transfer.

"I see myself making a difference there," said Crater, who will start classes this week. "The style of play and the coaching staff were great, and this is what I wanted, from a school standpoint and a basketball standpoint."

Crater, a quick 6-foot-1 guard who played 10 games at Ohio State as a true freshman, will not be able to play for the Bulls until the end of fall exams in December but will then have 31/2 years of eligibility with USF. He said his strengths on the court are his quickness and his passing ability.
