Juniors already making recruiting wavesUpdated 2/6/2007 10:42 AM ET

Jerry Meyer, Rivals.com

With college teams ready to hit the stretch run of conference play and with their high school recruits doing the same, recruiting news is limited at this time of the year. So let's take a look at the seven Rivals.com five-star prospects in the junior class who have already made verbal commitments to colleges.

Anthony Crater : No. 24 ranked junior, committed to Ohio State. Matta has a second 2008 five-star commitment in 6-foot-1 point guard Crater. With an advanced feel for the game, Crater can both create space for his smooth jump shot as well as create scoring opportunities for his teammates. In the mold of current Buckeyes point guard Mike Conley Jr., Crater creates a plethora of scoring opportunities for his team without excessively turning over the ball.

i see so many bad habits, and things to be worked on there....

thats the thing about conley, he only had two bad habits. one was his floor postioning and the other was a tendency to use and extra bounce before he picked up the ball. at this point he looks like more of a project than i initially thought. looks like a great baller, but has some work to do on being a basketball player...

If your comparing Crater to Conley, then I would have to agree that he needs some work....If your making an evaluation on him as a player, I would say that he lacks a consistent jump shot and needs to work on the fundamentals a bit. That said, lets remember he is only a junior and has almost 2 years before he gets on campus......I have only seen him in action 2 times, he has a ton of ability. Let him get in Matta's system.....he will be a good fit by the time he needs to take over for Conley.

I was hoping he'd look a little more fundamentally sound at this point, but its hard not to watch that video and get a little excited about who will be lacing up for the Bucks as a frosh in two years (which is plenty of time to be working on those fundamentals). It's quite obvious that he possesses tons of talent from which Thad can mold, but its also quite obvious Noopy had been playing a lot of "street ball" prior to that session (however it probably had a lot more to do with him wanting to show off for MSU coaches or whatnot, whom I'm assuming were there). Just hoping some of those bad habits die quickly, because TO's can change ANY game in a heartbeat.

Keep in mind Conley wasn't a polished prospect at Noopy's age either. Either way, I'm thanking the Lord for giving us Thad Matta and turning my beloved basketball team back into the way I remember them when I was little.

I watched that video twice, and I'm not sure I saw any habits that are going to be different than what you see in college. Sorry, we must be watching different things entirely. Crater demonstrates:

1) The ability to break down the defender off the dribble.
2) The awareness of his teammates' positions.
3) Unselfishness with the ball.
4) A fluidity of play that results in his shot and the shots of others coming naturally.

He looks to have the potential to be just as good as Conley is as a freshman, and his skills are beyond fundamental. I didn't see any street ball in that video AT ALL, and I saw no rawness whatsoever. Sorry. Trying to make difficult passes and dribbling through your legs left, right, back and front is NOT street ball. It's his flow. Big difference. Carrying the ball excessively, trying to embarass your opponent, and being concerned with your own points is street ball. Crater showed none of that.

I guess I wasnt paying attention to that...

I was moreso paying attention to the jersey's which look like the reversable ones that a team would use at a camp or open gym type situation...

Either way it doesnt lead me to believe that it is an AAU situation or a team that he would be accustomed to, and all you can take from a game like this is his athletic ability...

He has had nights where he has shot the ball very well from outside, and he his passing ability is very good...Either way I don't envision him to be Mike Conley who is easily a top 5 PG in the country as a frosh, but I expect him to be able to get the job done and distibute the ball with all the scorers that will be around him...
