PF Nikola Kecman (official thread)

Well if he comes in at the 4 then Evan will get to play more at the 3 and that will take minutes from Buford then or one of the other guards , or so it would seem. In that case he will have to score in order to replace those points.

I might be way off base here but I think it is wishful thinking that Kecman will get much significant playing time at all. I would imagine that he has not seen that much significant practice time playing with the first-team because Matta has had to give the majority of the practice time to the starters. I am not saying that Kecman is not a good player I am just saying that he will be stepping into playing in the Big 10 and I do not think he is ready for that right now. We shall see but he certainly is that going to be the answer to our problems.

Good question LitLBuck, just how much practice time has Kecman had. No basis, but I had thought that he was practicing all along. And if you are to read his thread he seems to be well regarded.

He is practicing with the team but my point is that if you do not play with the starters in practice how can you jump into a game situation and help the team with guys you haven't been playing with in practice. I have read the same things but until I see him play I will reserve judgment. The only has one year of "college" basketball under his belt.

I agree about the playing time with you but would ask you and others about the chances that he will bloom into a prime time player within a few games. It does happen.

Post entry feeds? I am not familiar with this concept, do you mean when one of the four players actually not playing down on the block look for and actually pass the ball to the one guy that is down on the block? All kidding aside, this is a two way street, the Bigs need to do a good job of getting and holding position and the outside guys obviously need to take the time to look in and pass to the post (both have been lacking at times, the latter moreso IMO)

As I said in another thread, I hope Kecman embraces defense enough to get some minutes, as his presence could open up the offense a bit with his shooting and his presence on the baseline would allow Turner to return to his more natural and disruptive spot at the top of the zone.

The Bucks need another threat from deep to spread out opposing defenses to open up driving lanes and create more space for the Bigs to set up shop. Hopefully Kecman can provide this as offense has been hard to come by at times for the Bucks this year.
As I posted in the Kecman minutes thread, I do not see him getting a lot of playing time this season because he will have to step right up into the Big 10 and he is not really that experienced when it comes to big-time college play. The NCAA:tongue2: really screwed him over.

I hope I am wrong and he comes out and stretches the defense with the shooting and plays tremendous defense but I just can't imagine seeing that this season. I would imagine that he is probably a good post entry passer since he is European. Most guys that have played over there are pretty good passers.

When I say I think he could have a significant role with Lighty out, I'm thinking something like 15 minutes per game on average. He's probably not a good enough rebounder to play much more than that, but with Lighty out they're really struggling to cover the 4 & that's exactly where he figures to play. It just seems to naturally work out in his favor. Matta was noncommital when asked whether and how much Kecman would play against MSU, saying something to the effect of "we might throw him in there."

This guy was wanted by several high majors prior to his signing with OSU last spring, so he must bring SOMETHING to the table.

Well, Kecman didn't see any time against MSU. Perhaps Matta wants to "ease him in" to college ball rather than just throw him to the wolves. I still think he should get a significant role with Lighty out.

Jmo , maybe right maybe wrong , but I was disappointed that he didn't get into the game last night because I was hoping kinda sorta that he would be a force right off the bat and apparently that is not to be.
I was probably hoping for too much.
At any rate. I'll be here cheering on my Bucks.
:oh:

He is not ready for Big 10 play at the moment. If he is going to play the 4 position, he will have to get stronger before he can do anything in the Big 10. Also, as I stated before, he has not been practicing with the 1's so he has a lot to learn. I do not think he will get many minutes this entire season because of the emergence of Madsen but we shall see.

emergence of Madsen !!!!! What, did he come out of a coma? Personally, if you call Kyle's play some sort of emergence this team is in real trouble!!!! I'm sure he gives it everything he has but he is not Big Ten caliber. I'm sure he is a good kid to have on the team but not for his basketball skills.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you. Madsen is a decent player and will be a good role player for the rest of this season, hes averaging 8 minutes a game. He won't be putting up big numbers or anything, but its important to have another body at the pf/c position. I think next year he'll have a bigger role, much like Terwilliger did last year. Back to Kecman's minutes..

I haven't seen your other post but if it is good as this one welcome to the :(club. When I used the word "emergence", I was referring to the fact that Kyle was seeing the floor more this year than last and that probably will reduce any minutes for Kecman. Madsen knows his role on the team and plays decently when he is in the game. He is not a star by any stretch of the imagination but he does not hurt the team that much when he is on the floor.

Sorry Ptown but Madsen's playing time will directly reflect the amount of minutes Kecman will get.

I don't think I disagreed with that statement, and if I did I didn't mean to:).

According to the ESPN boxscore Nikola had 6 points and 5 rebounds in 11 minutes. Did he look strong enough to see minutes against B10 teams?
