“Luckily, we had an opportunity to have another year. I was just weighing out all of my options. I had some conversations with some agents and discussed options about playing overseas or wherever it would be. But I love this place and I want to do another year here. That’s what it came down to. I’m close with my family.
“I decided to come back and play with these guys. My teammates and my coaches are amazing.”
“It was crazy,” Young said. “I was coming off the first incident that happened against Michigan. I came back and recovered and I was feeling great. I really wasn’t having any other issues with my body or my health. I was feeling great and playing good basketball and I ended up getting hit in that second half against Purdue.
“It was a hard hit but at first I didn’t really feel any of the symptoms that I had with the concussion before. It wasn’t until I sat down in the huddle during that timeout that (the symptoms) came on. From that point, it was about trying to recover and get my head right.
“It was tough because I missed those two Big Ten games and then up into the next week and the NCAA Tournament. It was tough watching, especially being in my fourth year. I really wanted to be a part of it. That whole time, I had the utmost confidence in my teammates. It wasn’t a matter of me being out.”
Young said he is back to full health and is able to work out.
“It did take some time,” he said. “After that last game in the tournament, I started to feel a bit more normal. I don’t know the exact date. I’m back to normal and feeling myself. It was just a matter of taking time to heal.”
Young said he never considered giving up basketball due to the concussion issues.
“It’s hard not to think about that because it could be potentially dangerous,” Young said. “But I don’t think that was a big factor in my decision.”

“I was able to graduate last summer with a degree in sport industry,” Young said. “I started my masters program and I am toward the end of my masters program in sports management. I have a few more things to do, but I should have that wrapped up by the end of the summer.”
