Almost anyone, of any character, can get caught up in a domestic dispute.I'm going to withhold judgment on this one. Just too far out of what I believed to be his character.

Boston Celtics forward Jared Sullinger has started seeing a counselor since being arrested for his role in an alleged domestic violence dispute, and he and his girlfriend are both seeking to eliminate restrictions on their communication, CSNNE.com's A. Sherrod Blakely reported Monday.
According to court documents obtained by Blakely, attorneys for both Sullinger and his girlfriend, Deann Smith, have submitted motions hoping to reverse a Sept. 3 court ruling that they can only have in-person contact in the presence of a third party.
A spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney's office, though, told Blakely they consider the original ruling "appropriate."
During a Sept. 3 arraignment, Sullinger pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery, destruction of property over $250 and intimidation of a witness. The charges all stemmed from an alleged dispute between Sullinger and Smith at their Waltham residence on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 31. More details of the incident can be found here.
Sullinger was released on $5,000 bail, but a Waltham District Court judge ruled the 21-year old could not have contact with Smith unless in the presence of a third party. Sullinger has been allowed to speak to his girlfriend by telephone.
Smith, according to documents obtained by Blakely, is now living in Ohio, but would like to be able to work on her relationship with Sullinger, and believes the court's ruling is hindering her from doing so.
Jared Sullinger Needs To Rebound, In More Ways Than One

Jared Sullinger can crash the boards. - Jared Wickerham
Whether it's a missed jump shot, a season-ending back injury or an ugly off-court scandal, Jared Sullinger always finds himself needing to bounce back. Can he handle all the pressures of this upcoming season?
Before even beginning to address our hopes and expectations for the upcoming season for Jared Sullinger, we should all acknowledge that yes, there's an enormous elephant in the room, and we can't help but stare.
Sullinger is currently facing criminal charges of assault and battery, destruction of property over $250 and intimidation of a witness. He turned himself in and was arraigned in Waltham District Court on Sept. 3 - allegedly, he threw his girlfriend onto a bed, pinned her, and took and damaged her phone when she tried to call for help.
If the allegations are true - and local police have significant evidence that they are, including red marks visible hours later on the accuser's chest - then this story is far more important than anything Sullinger can do on a basketball court. Violence against women is a terrible thing. Awful. Awful awful awful. I'd give back all 17 banners in the TD Garden rafters if we could live in a world without domestic abuse. If you disagree, you need to get your priorities checked.
Having said all that, I don't want to drag Sullinger's name through the mud for all eternity. I don't think he's a bad guy. I don't think he's pathologically mean-spirited like this. I think he's a 21-year-old who got caught up in a passionate moment and lost his temper. I also think he's shown genuine remorse in the days since.
In short: Jared Sullinger is a kid who made a mistake.

WALTHAM, Mass. — Prosecutors say they intend to pursue domestic assault charges against Boston Celtics forward Jared Sullinger even though his accuser wants to drop the case.
The 21-year-old Sullinger appeared in Waltham District Court on Monday to face charges of assault and battery, destruction of property and witness intimidation in connection with the Aug. 31 confrontation with his girlfriend. She accused Sullinger of pinning her to a bed and the floor at his Waltham home.
His lawyer, Charles Rankin, says the girlfriend does not want to continue the case and is not afraid of Sullinger.
A spokeswoman for the Middlesex district attorney's office says prosecutors "believe we have evidence to support the charges."
Sullinger has pleaded not guilty and remains free on $5,000 bail. He called the charges "embarrassing."
Jared Sullinger 'not close' to game action

WALTHAM – Celtics forward Jared Sullinger declined to answer questions about his impending court case Monday when players and team staff addressed reporters for media day. Sullinger was arrested on domestic violence charges Sept. 3 following an incident with his girlfriend. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 28.
“I would love to say something, but it’s a legal matter now,” said Sullinger. “When that court date comes, we’ll have a distraction that day, but for now I’m just focused on basketball.”
On the court, Sullinger is recovering after offseason back surgery. The second-year forward out of Ohio State said returning to game action was not imminent.
“Not close,” Sullinger said of his return to competitive basketball. “Being out for six months of not playing basketball is really tough. It’s been a long year for me, from playing to back surgery, just trying to get healthy from there. Everything looks perfect as of now, but still got a lot of work to do.”
Sullinger said he had no limitations on the court, that he can play at full speed, and that he’s able to take charges and do anything else he could before.
“As of right now it’s just getting in the best shape possible,” said Sullinger. “I just think it’s time, with training camp, practicing every day. Only time can tell.”
Jared Sullinger impresses on Celtics' first day of training camp

NEWPORT, R.I. – After being out six months while recovering from back surgery, Celtics forward Jared Sullinger didn’t know what to expect heading into the first day of training camp here Tuesday. He was as curious about his performance as others were.
The test results came back pretty positive, too.
“Pleasantly surprised at his motor, because I thought it was pretty good,” coach Brad Stevens said.
Sullinger felt the same way: surprised.
“Yes, very. I didn’t think I was going to make it through practice,” he said. “Being six months off and then trying to get back in the swing of things, that’s really, really tough.”
Still, Sullinger said he’s “not even close” when it comes to his conditioning. “I’m nowhere near where I need to be,” he said.
He also said he’s “very rusty.” With what? “Everything,” he said. “Timing, footwork, where I need to be on the court, just trying to figure out what I can do. I had back surgery, now I’ve got to modify some things and see what I can do well.”
Sullinger, who played in 45 games his rookie season, did say that he trusts his back and is at the point where he can move without worrying that he might reinjure it.
“I passed that point, mentally, in August,” he said. “The first time I got back on the court, I was really nervous about moving, but now, I’m taking charges again, moving.”

FROM SUITS TO SHORTS: Tonight’s exhibition tilt against Toronto figures to be Jared Sullinger’sv first game action since January.

WALTHAM — Tonight’s exhibition opener against Toronto at the Garden will be Jared Sullinger’s first game since Jan. 30.
The process of recovering from back surgery has admittedly been slow and debilitating for the Celtics forward. He gained an estimated 15 pounds, and has spent training camp attempting to trim down his 270-plus frame.
There’s no time like now for a fresh baptism.
“Everything feels great, but I have to get in better shape,” Sullinger said after yesterday’s practice. “Being six, seven months off and then coming in and trying to play with these guys who have been working out all summer and played the entire NBA season last year, I’m just a tier under.
“I feel good. Every day I get in better shape. I can tell every day throughout practice that I’m starting to survive a little more. You just have to keep working.”

by Ben Watanabe on Fri, Oct 11, 2013
Jared Sullinger still has a ways to go before he is in ideal playing shape. Nobody just bounces back from back surgery and immediately is ready to run a marathon, and Sullinger was never a toothpick to begin with. If Sullinger keeps coming along like this, though, he should be just fine by the time the ball goes up on opening night. The second-year forward was one of the few bright spots in the Celtics’ 97-85 loss to the Sixers in Newark, Del., on Friday as the Celtics fell to 0-3 on the preseason. His 19 points led all Celtics and he came within a rebound of matching Brandon Bass‘ team-high 10 boards. Sullinger showed up for camp noticeably heavier than he was last season and admitted time would tell whether he would be in game shape by Oct. 30. While it is unlikely he will be in Gerald Wallace-caliber shape by that time, Sullinger should be more than serviceable provided he keeps at it with his conditioning.
Notebook: Sullinger's game taking shape

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The Boston Celtics' best player this preseason might just be the one in the worst shape. At least in that player's opinion.
AP Photo/Michael DwyerJared Sullinger battles for the ball on Saturday night against the Knicks in New Hampshire.
Jared Sullinger said he hasn't stepped on a scale since mid-September, not wanting to let three numbers dictate the progress he's making as he tries to whip his body into shape after nearly six months of inactivity following back surgery in February.
Fortunately for Sullinger, all the readily available numbers that he's posted on the court thus far have been supremely flattering. Through four preseason games, Sullinger is averaging team bests at 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. What's more, after finishing a plus-23 during Saturday's 111-81 thrashing of the New York Knicks at the Verizon Wireless Arena, Sullinger is now a glossy plus-31 through four games (not bad for a team that's 1-3).
Like the scale, Sullinger doesn't judge his preseason by the stats. He lets his body dictate his progress. Before the start of training camp, Sullinger admitted he was uncertain how fast he could get back to game shape, but suggested he was a long ways off. His on-court play has suggested someone that's very much ahead of schedule, even if Sullinger refuses to admit it.
"I have to do a couple more things," he said. "As of right now, [he's] on schedule."

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Years ago at a high school open gym, Brad Stevens first saw Jared Sullinger play basketball.
By then Sullinger had already committed to Ohio State, so Stevens knew he had no chance to recruit the stud. But immediately Stevens felt the urge to phone his former boss Thad Matta, who coached the Buckeyes.
“I called Thad on my way home and said, ‘I can’t believe how much he can do. Not just rebounding, but shooting, passing, playing,’” Stevens said prior to Saturday’s preseason Boston Celtics win.

Celtics preseason MVP so far is Jared Sullinger
By Jeff Clark @celticsblog on Oct 13 2013
Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports
For what it is worth.
"I'll take worthless awards for $200 Alex."
"You may be the best baller on the court, but the score doesn't count."
"What is preseason MVP?"
"Correct!"
A few years ago we were treated with Doc calling Jermaine O'Neal the "MVP of training camp." We all know how that turned out. Last year Jeff Green looked fabulous in preseason but as soon as the real games started, he stopped (or took two big steps backward). We're all hoping that the exact opposite is happening this year but only time will tell.
So all of that is to say "take this with the appropriate grains of salt," but so far Jared Sullinger has performed as well as any Celtic in the preseason.
Sullinger rebounds on pure instinct
He’s the Celtics’ leading scorer (12.8 ppg) and rebounder (6.5 rpg). He was slightly more subdued last night with 12 points and five rebounds during the team’s first win of the preseason under Stevens, beating the Knicks, 111-81. But for those wondering about the best Celtic during the four games of this preseason, it is quite possibly the same guy who said he wasn’t "close" on the first day of training camp.

One interesting subplot of the Boston Celtics preseason: Judging how close broadcaster Cedric Maxwell is to jumping onto the court, grabbing Jared Sullinger by the jersey and screaming in his face never to shoot a 3-pointer again.
I envision spit flying out of Maxwell’s mouth, veins popping out of his eye sockets and claws of adamantium sprouting improbably from his fingertips.
Maxwell surely won’t actually jump onto the court to restrain Sullinger, or at least I hope. But one can feel the announcer’s displeasure rising to uncomfortable levels every time Sullinger lets go of another long-range attempt. During the last game in which Maxwell served as a television color analyst, he got so excited to see Sullinger near the basket that he started discussing something about sandwiches and a refrigerator, which almost made sense.
