PF Jared Sullinger (2x 1st Team ALL B1G & All American, Anyang KGC, S.Korea)

Then...I thought this would be about the ACT. Nope. :(

Is it just me or does this not sit well with others?

Can the kid take a break from basketball and focus on academics for a little?

I'm not blaming Jared completely here. The whole system seems corrupt as far as academics nowadays. These kids just travel around the country year round, with a lack of attention on anything besides putting a ball in a hoop.

Not reassuring to have a kid playing in a tourney on the other side of the US when he still isn't technically eligible to play at the next level and a test to help him get there is on that day.

Has his standing changed?
I was thinking the same thing when I posted my message regarding the fact that he told the reporter "I'll have to get back to you" I know most college athletes are disciplined enough to study while they are traveling but I don't think the same can be said about kids still in high school. If in fact both he and Thomas have not met the required test score, they should be home reading some books which prepare you for such tests.

I think maybe we just might be making too much out his response to that question.
I don't think so unless you know something that has not been publicized.

Jared Sullinger tops updated Dime/2K Sports Top 50 Ranking
By Dime Magazine

jared-sullinger-56C.jpg

Rajon Rondo isn?t the only guy making his national magazine cover debut this month. On the other half of our Dime #56 double-cover we have Jared Sullinger, the first-ever Dime/2K Sports National High School Player of the Year.

If you haven?t seen Sullinger play yet, you can still catch him at the Jordan Brand Classic on April 17, or you can wait until he?s ripping it up at Ohio State next season. The 6-9, 260-pound big man averaged over 24 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks per game as a senior at Northland H.S. in Colombus, Ohio, and a couple weeks ago copped co-MVP at the McDonald?s All-American Game while putting up 22 points for the losing West squad despite playing with the flu.

?Think a slightly more versatile Karl Malone with better ball-handling skills,? Dime?s high school analyst Jason Jordan writes about Sullinger in this issue?s cover story.

?Jared is just a beast,? says Josh Smith, a senior All-American from Kentwood H.S. (Covington, Wash.) who is signed with UCLA. ?He?s big and quick and he?s got a million different moves. It?s hard to guard a guy that can take over in so many ways.?

Sullinger also headlines the Dime/2K Sports All-American Team, and he has vaulted all the way to the No. 1 spot on the High School Hoop national Top 50 player ranking, which we just released this morning. Just like with our All-American Team, we?ve ranked the best players in the country regardless of class ? however this is the final Top 50 that will include the 2010 seniors. Sullinger was previously 4th in the last updated ranking.

Jared Sullinger, PF, Ohio State Buckeyes
Sullinger is a load. His legs are like tree trunks and he's a powerful player in the post. He battled all game with Kanter and, while Kanter got the best of him, he wasn't too shabby. He ended with 22 points and eight rebounds, six of them on the offensive end.

Sullinger has the makings of a dominant college big man. Few bigs will be able to match his strength or keep him off the boards. He also has a rare combination of brains and brawn. He can do just about anything on the floor but still likes to bang with the best of them.

His fate as an NBA prospect, however, leaves a bit to be desired. He's a bit undersized at the 4 and isn't an explosive athlete. He also has struggled with weight and conditioning issues throughout high school. If he sheds some pounds and gets a little quicker because of it, he could be a Kevin Love or Paul Milsap type of player. But I doubt he's one and done.

trust, knowing Satch he will be on campus.
satch won't be taking the act. i expect that jared will achieve the necessary act score, but the fact remains that he is still taking the act test for a reason... and that's not good. if he did not take the test on saturday, there will be one last-ditch effort. the same apparently applies to deshaun. matta is probably developing a massive ulcer right now.

or maybe sully has already passed and is retaking the test for his own edification.

He's off to Ohio State!
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Jared Sullinger
(1:40 PM)

Yeah, I listen to Michael Jackson on the bus and then when I get to the arena or high school, I turn on Jay-Z.
jordan (columbus, oh)

Who's your favorite player, other than yourself, in this year's class?
Jared Sullinger
(1:40 PM)

All of them, because our connection off the court will help us on the court.
dot (North Carolina)

Out of all the all-star events, which is your favorite?
Jared Sullinger
(1:41 PM)

My favorite being the McDonald's All-American game, because it's the most prestigious game and it's in my hometown.
Derek (Iraq)

Who do you try to pattern your game after?
Jared Sullinger
(1:42 PM)

Depends on what coach I play for. If I play for my dad, he lets me play on the outside a little bit. So I try to play like Lamar Odom. And then if I'm playing for another coach, I'll play like Kevin Love.
Bryan (Ohio)

Did you ever consider going anywhere else or were you instantly sold on Ohio State?
Jared Sullinger
(1:43 PM)

I was high on Florida, because the same week OSU offered me, Florida offered me. They had just won back to back championships, but I remembered what my brother told me and I followed in his footsteps.
Frank (Dallas)

What do you need to work on most to help you take your game to another level?
Jared Sullinger
(1:43 PM)

Strength and conditioning. It's the only thing that's holding me back from being the best I can be.
jordan (columbus, oh)

what is your impression of the other OSU players coming in?
Jared Sullinger
(1:44 PM)

Cool, calm and collected. No problems off the court. We just want to keep our image on the court as good as it can be.
QPD (Pomona, CA)

With being a superstar high school athlete, it is very easy to become arrogant and cocky when it comes to your particular circumstance. How do you remain humble and con tinue to work hard day in and day out?
Jared Sullinger
(1:45 PM)

One thing I say is that I'm not a superstar. It's because of what my brothers always tell me. You ain't nothing until you get paid for what you do. Until then, don't talk about anything you do on the court, until you get paid off the court.
Will (Memphis)

Are you on Twitter?
Jared Sullinger
(1:45 PM)

Yes. I am. I am Deah_sully.
Ray A. (San Diego, CA)

Who is a basketball player you look up to? And how would you feel about being compared to Toronto's Chris Bosh?
Jared Sullinger
(1:46 PM)

I look up to Harrison Barnes and Kyrie Irving because they are like family.
Jared Sullinger
(1:47 PM)

I never heard that comparison.
Andrew (North Carolina )

What in the one think you are looking forward to the most next year at OSU
Jared Sullinger
(1:48 PM)

I'm looking forward to the educational experience and to put on the scarlet and gray uniform.
Mike (Chi-Town)

Do you see yourself as a one and done?
Jared Sullinger
(1:49 PM)

No, because I have so much work to do on the court.
Jared Sullinger
(1:49 PM)

O-H-I-O. And don't forget to watch on Saturday on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, the Jordan Brand Classic All-American game. Go Harrison Barnes! Go Kyrie Irving!

Thank you for the good news. I guess I can now get some sleep at night:wink2:

I'm pretty amped about Jared playing for OSU next year. He's an incredible talent, one that you don't see very often, especially as a freshman. What player does he compare to? Hard to say, because so few bigs have been as advanced as he is as a frosh, but it's a great question. I think there are some similarities between Jared and Marcus Fizer his last year in college when he was an All-American and the 4th pick in the draft.

One thing that appears to have missed this thread was Jared's performance in the Jordan Brand game - he had 20 points and 7 rebounds in that game and was 9-11 from the field, and it actually looked to me like he had an off game (4 turnovers, only 1-5 from the foul line). He also had 4 blocks, 4 steals and 2 assists in the game. So in his off games he goes for 20 and 7 on 9-11 shooting.

It amazes me how he scored 20+ points in each of the three all-star games he played (McDonald's, Nike Hoop Summit and Jordan Brand) and he did it with outstanding efficiency (shot like 72% from the field in those 3 games). I guess the articles that said he shot 76% or 78% from the field as a SR in HS weren't kidding! No other player in his class scored 20+ in each of those 3 games this year.

I'm very impressed with his productivity & how he's such a winner. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be an All-American his freshman year & that's why I'm really looking forward to next year.

With all due respect to the numbers that Jared has put up in the all-star games and from what I have seen of him I guess pretty good competition along with those skill set that he now possesses saying he might be an All-American his freshman year might be a little bit already stretch. I guess we shall see how well he adapts to play against older players.

Imagine what this offense can look like with a post player who can knock down that midrange shot. Finally with Sully we can actually pull the opposing big men away from the basket for a change opening the lane for driving. We should see a more diverse offense next season for sure.

So I take it that you are pretty sure he is going to be playing the 5 position all of the time. I would not mind seeing him playing the 4 with Dallas at the 5 sometime this. That would certainly help our rebounding and if someone tried to play man-to-man against us with Jared at the 4 that could prove very interesting.
