Just to update this, Derek is back playing. He played 5 minutes in the Regional Semi's and 18 minutes in the Regional finals. Great to see him heal up so fast and get a chance to experience playing in the State tournament this weekend.

Derek had 12 points on 4-5 shooting, 4-4 FT, and 4 rebounds in 14 minutes in the state semi finals game.
He had 9 points on 2-3 shooting, 5-5 FT, and 2 rebounds in 18 minutes in the state championship game.

According to his high school coach we are his very early leader by a wide margin:)

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Every text message Derek Funderburk receives from Ohio State coach Thad Matta ends with the same sign off: "Think Buckeyes."

It's not unique, Matta and his coaching staff want every player they recruit to be thinking about Ohio State. But it's possible Matta means it more when he's talking to Funderburk, the St. Edward High School center who's one of the Buckeyes' top targets in the 2016 recruiting class.

Ohio State missed out on Ohio's top three 2015 players, but the Buckeyes are all in on Funderburk, a four-star player ranked No. 4 in the state by 247sports.

"They absolutely love my game," Funderburk told cleveland.com last week. "Coach Matta, Coach (Jeff) Boals, they're great guys. They want me to be a Buckeye pretty bad."

this is the exact type of recruit from Ohio that we have missed out on in the past so all the Matta "haters" should be applauding this verbal...right? some other forums are just intolerable to read in their incessant criticism of coach and his recruiting. I also thought we'd have more replies on this site for a top 40 national recruit verballing to us but alas..... I for one am very happy to have Derek on board! Welcome to Buckeye nation!!!
