Power forward
Battle Creek, Michigan
Battle Creek Central
AAU: Michigan Mustangs

Ht:6'9"
Wt:230 lbs

Strengths:
McDonald is the type of player that the more you watch him the more you like him. He has great size, length and runs the floor on a consistent basis. He scores with his back to the basket mostly with a jump hook that he can shoot with either hand and he also displayed the ability to step out and knock down the 15 footer with time and space. McDonald is an excellent area rebounder as well. Anything that hits his hands he seems to pull in. He also is a good on ball shot blocker.

Weaknesses:
McDonald must continue to add strength and maintain the confidence he gained from attending the Nike Skills Academies where he seemed to get better at a steady rate. He must work on passing the ball under intense pressure out of the post and handle the ball more fluidly in addition to working to be a consistent back to the basket scorer and open mid range shot maker.

Bottom Line:
Great looking prospect that has worked hard and improved rapidly so far this summer. He can score, rebound enough to demand the defenses attention and has great upside definitely one of the class of 2011 post players that is on the rise.

by NBE Blogger

Currently ranked #87 in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 100, Battle Creek (MI) Central HS PF/C Trey McDonald is one of the most highly coveted frontcourt prospects uncommitted in the current senior class of high school prospects. The 6-foot-9, 205-lb big man has a busy week as some of the biggest names in college coaching are coming through Battle Creek to try and convince McDonald to come to their program.

A source with knowledge of McDonald?s recruitment tells NBE?s Ray Mernagh this afternoon that West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins paid a visit earlier today, Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith will be in Battle Creek tonight for an in-home visit and Marquette will be coming to town tomorrow and Ohio State and Wake Forest will be stopping by for workouts on Thursday to get a look at McDonald for themselves.

Men's basketball: Michigan forward commits to OSU | BuckeyeXtra

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

With time and prospects dwindling three weeks before the fall signing period begins, Ohio State basketball coaches hooked one big man for next season yesterday while retaining a chance to land another.

Trey McDonald, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward-center from Battle Creek, Mich., said last night he has committed to sign with the Buckeyes during the early signing period Nov.10-17.

McDonald said he "fell in love" with the Ohio State campus on his official visit Oct.2-3, that OSU coaches were his favorites of those who recruited him and that he felt comfortable with the players. He said he chose the Buckeyes over Oakland, Wake Forest, DePaul and Marquette.

Continued...

Meanwhile, 6-10, 220-pound Amir Williams of Detroit said in a text message to The Dispatch that, despite McDonald's commitment, he still plans to make an official visit to Ohio State in the next few weeks.

McDonald played power forward and Williams center on the same Detroit-based AAU team this summer, and McDonald said they have talked about playing together in college. "It'd be pretty fun if we did," he said.

Reggie Rankin, a recruiting analyst for ESPN Scouts Inc., said McDonald's and Williams' skills are different enough that they could play as a tandem in college.

"Trey's got a bigger body," he said. "Amir's a long, lean athlete."

Trey McDonald commits to OSU

Ohio State has received a commitment from 6-foot-9 Trey McDonald of Battle Creek, Mich., the player's high school coach told the Battle Creek Enquirer today.

"He's going to be a Buckeye," Central High School coach Greg Williams said on the newspaper's website.

Williams did not confirm the commitment to me when I contacted him this afternoon but did say McDonald was in the process of breaking the news to the schools he did not choose and that he would call me after that or tonight, after he's done with cross country practice.

That's right -- McDonald, 6-9 and about 225 pounds, runs cross country. "This is his third year," Williams said.

He also plays bass drum in the school band and, most important of all for Ohio State, already is qualified for freshman eligibility, Williams said.

BCC's Trey McDonald tends to stand out wherever he is. Listed at 6-foot-9, the Bearcat senior is a standout on the basketball court. Just this week he gave his verbal commitment to play collegiately at Ohio State University.

But before McDonald takes a step on the court for the BCC basketball team this winter, he will cap off his running career for the Bearcat cross country team.

"It just helps you compete all year long and it helps you stay in shape and get your cardio in," McDonald said. "It's pretty different. Basketball is a team sport. This is a team sport, but you are pretty much on your own running. It's good to meet new people."

Armock said having a guy like McDonald on his squad really helps because of the leadership skills he brings with him.

"Trey comes with a great attitude. At practices, he's leading the group," Armock said. "He's the one working out on the track, he's always in the lead. He works extremely hard. He's really trying to work himself into better shape to be a better overall athlete. But the biggest thing is he is a great role model for these young kids."
