PETA says the time has come for the SEC's first robot mascot

Bulldogs are prone to breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, heart disorders, and other congenital ailments, and acquiring a dog from a breeder perpetuates the animal overpopulation crisis while causing another dog waiting in an animal shelter to be condemned to death.

Okay, so if this is their problem, then there is an easy fix. Get Uga VIII from a shelter. I think we would all agree that getting the dog from a shelter would be a classy move for the university. That way you are giving a dog that would be in a shelter or maybe put down a good life. He'd be very happy being the most popular dog in Georgia. There we go, problem solved.

yeah, but they go get a really dumb looking mixed breed if they do that.
like something with the size, features, and colors of a german shaepard, but the height of a basset hound.

In the wake of the death of the University of Georgia's bulldog mascot PETA has asked the school's athletic director to replace the mascot with an animatronic dog -- or to rely solely on a costumed mascot -- instead of using a real bulldog. Bulldogs are prone to breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, heart disorders, and other congenital ailments, and acquiring a dog from a breeder perpetuates the animal overpopulation crisis while causing another dog waiting in an animal shelter to be condemned to death.
Yeah that makes sense.

<sarcasm>I think, in the interest of humane, um, overkill, none of us should ever own a dog again. Just get toys (animatronics.) None of us could then be accused of perpetuating the animal overpopulation crises. If we just eliminate the species from North America, then there will be no more problem.</sarcasm>

Dog Breed Predispostion
The problems of a Basset Hound are horrific compared to the whiney things that PETA says about Georgia Bulldogs:
Basset Hound:
Achondroplasia
Foreleg lameness due to unusual anatomy
Anomaly of third cervical vertebrae
Deformed vertebral body resulting in pressure necrosis of overlying cord in coordination from birth to six months of age
Atopy
Ectropion
Outward rolled eyelids
Entropion
Inward rolled eyelids.
Gastric torsion
Immunodeficiency
Inguinal hernia
A condition considered high risk in this breed
Hereditary factors not determined
Defective formation of linea alba causing protrusion of abdominal contents through inguinal canal
Interdigital inclusion cysts
Lafara's disease
Seizures
retarded growth
susceptibility to viral and bacterial infections
Malasezia dermatitis
Osteochondritis dissecans
Defect or necrosis of articular cartilage in shoulder causing distinct favoring of affected limb
Osteodystrophy
Radial carpal joints
Otitis externa
Oversized palpebral fissure
Patella luxation
Proposed recessive polygenic and multi-focal inheritance
Medial or lateral
Most common are medial
Tiibial rotation on the long axis
Bending of the distal end of the femoral shaft
Shallow femoral trochlea
Lameness at 4-6 months of age.
Persistent pupillary membrane
Platelet disorder
Mild to moderately severe bleeding
Prolonged bleeding time
Abnormal platelet aggregation and adhesiveness
Poor clot retraction
Primary glaucoma
Increased intraocular pressure
Associated with lens luxation
Progressive retinal degeneration
Protrusion of the gland of the third eyelid
Pulmonic Stenosis
Seborrhea, primary
Skin fold intertrigo
Torsion of lung
Ventricular Septal Defect

p.s. I've owned dogs all my life.

Something that really needs to be publicized because it really underscores how radical PETA's agenda is. PETA supports the following legally enforced policies

  • An end to purebred dogs
  • An end to pet ownership
They are also the largest euthanizer of dogs in the United States. Any dog "rescued" or adopted by PETA or a PETA surrogate is likely to be put to death.

first off, fuck PETA. now that we have that out of the way, i don't support purebred dogs either. specifically the KC standards, which, in damn near every instance, INTENTIONALLY breed genetic defects into the dogs to achieve that 'standard' look... the examples are numerous. german shepherds with their hip problems, rhodesian ridgebacks with their spina bifida, pugs with their scoliosis... i could go on. bottom line is, inbreeding is BAD.

all that being said, i am TOTALLY against legislating dog breeding.

(i find it quite amusing that Pam Anderson is a PETA member considering the way she's been torturing her pussy for the last 20 years. :p )
