The Shell station near my office removed their entire cooler display of 20-oz regular Pepsi bottles and replaced them with 20-oz Pepsi Throwbacks this week.

Disgusting. :sick1:

I guess I had never realized how delicious high fructose corn syrup was. This stuff tastes like Diet Rite.

More like Pepsi Throwups.

The original Coke in the heavy glass bottle was the [censored], out of all the old-school non-diet sodas.

Absolutely - Pepsi has always sucked. Coke in the glass bottle, which I have have purchased the few times I could find it, is just way better.

I actually really liked the can of Pepsi Throwback and then Mt. Dew Throwback that I tried once. The next day I took a drink of regular Pepsi...I couldn't believe the (bad) difference. Of course, that was about the...2nd time last year I drank pop of any kind. Stuff does weird things to my stomach now. But I did really like the Throwback. I could have drunk the Mt. Dew all day.

When the corn syrupy stuff came out, I thought it had an aftertaste. Well, it does, and I guess I got used to it, as did everybody else. Now, because I got used to it, the throwback tastes like IT has an aftertaste (which I kind of like!)

Yeah, there's one of us in every crowd... :tongue2:

I'm going to go with the consensus here and say that I'm not sure the sugar is the issue.

I order Dublin Dr. Pepper from the original factory at least once a year and it always tastes better than the HFC flavored version.

Same goes for the Mexican Coke I pick up at the grocery all the time.

More likely the problem is that Pepsi just tastes like ass. :p

The Mexican Coke with sugar is excellent. I used to buy cases of the stuff in the glass bottles from Sam's Club when they had it, then they no longer offered it. Regular Coke tastes harsh next to it, plus its sweet drinking out of the old school bottles.

Haven't tried the Pepsi Throwback myself, but I love the Mnt. Dew Throwback, loved it the first time around and bought a bunch of it. The sugar is smoother than the corn syrup. It tastes funny at first because you're brain is telling you that it doesn't taste right, however your brain told you the same thing when they switched to corn syrup. After you've had a few Throwbacks, you begin to realize that it does taste better.

I find the Mnt. Dew Throwback goes down smoother than the regular stuff. Technically the sugar is slightly better for you because it isn't manufacturered, but pop is bad for you no matter how you slice it.

One thing I remembered from trying the throwbacks is that pop with sugar doesn't taste bad warm.

Now that's an interesting thought.

When I was a kid it was mainly Pepsi that we had in the house and I can remember drinking it warm as often as not.

I can't stand regular pop, all syrupy sweet and sticky. It might be okay on pancakes but I don't want a glass of it. Besides, it makes me more thirsty than I was before I drank it.

I've been drinking sugar free soda for years because I like it better. Not too sweet and more refreshing. I'll pass on the throwback.

Dr. Pepper? Just mix some cough syrup with club soda and you'll get the same result. :sick1:
