People to Punch, Pet Peeves, and General Vexations (mega-merge)

Here's another one that is probably unreasonable: people who think they're being smart by scheduling something to be at "3:00 EST". The EST stands for Eastern Standard Time, as opposed to Eastern Daylight Saving Time (EDT). If you schedule something for 3:00 EST in June, I have to do the whole "spring forward / fall back" thing and figure out if you're talking about 2:00 EDT or 4:00 EDT. (Spoiler alert: 3:00 EST = 4:00 EDT). Then I need to try to guess if you're a doofus and didn't know that we're in daylight saving time now, or not. Then I need to figure out if I'm zurping this way out of proportion. Then after a couple minutes of wondering if I need to make a post on Buckeyeplanet about it, I usually just forget it and write it down as me being a big nerd and say it's for 3:00 EDT.

I often edit thread titles from ‘EST’ to ‘ET’ in an attempt to avoid confusion.

My calendar does this automagically for me.

I think it’s F’d with certain states that don’t do it. The older I get the more I feel we should decide on DST and stop the back forth.

My magic computer calendar does that automagically, too. But I mean when someone sends an email: "Can you join a call at 3:00 EST?" First, it tells me that you aren't as smart as you think you are. Second, all that stuff I posted before.
And I'd love to switch to DST 100% of the year.

Ah got you, I misunderstood. I work across time zones with my projects so I always think in terms of the zone I’m connecting with.

Of course that leads me to my bitch of internal staff just not looking at my calendar to schedule. Also, external clients sending me an invite without the courtesy of asking.

Yeah - good ones. Ask me if I want a meeting at 2:00 before sending me an invite.
And if you're on the west coast, don't send me a request for 3:00 your time. I don't schedule meetings with you for 8:00 my time.

On Tuesday, June 3rd I heard my AC unit making a helicopter sound so I went and looked and sure enough, a fan blade had broke. I shut it off and called for next day service. Guy comes out and suggest we change the housing unit too because of rust. My AC unit is ten years old but has a life expectancy of 15 so I went for the maintenance repair. Turns out none of the parts were in town and they had to order them from Canada. They said maybe Friday. Get a call Saturday morning and they tell me that the parts didn't arrive, maybe Monday or Tuesday. My wife is at Fan Fusion this weekend and she's staying at the Hyatt, so she's good. She suggested that I find a place but I have stubbornly waited it out. After two rough nights of heavy sweating I've properly hydrated myself and have acclimated to the higher temperatures. I always had my thermostat set at 75 so to think now I'm existing in temperatures of 90+ degrees and feel perfectly comfortable it reminds of who the body adapts and how mental toughness can get you through trying times.

Hopefully your plates melt.
