As a biker myself, I agree...dipshits who don't ride like they're supposed to make the rest of us look bad.

Today, two friends (a married couple who area strong triathletes and cyclists) and I were riding on this semi-country road (Kunia Rd, for those who have lived on Oahu), on the shoulder, right of the white line the separates the actual traffic lane from the shoulder which goes into the grass side (no curb). Some fuckin' moke doing about 50 (it's a 35 MPH zone) purposely came close to the shoulder and his van mirror barely missed me by a foot or so and almost clipped me with it and missed my male friend who was about 100 yards ahead of me by even less. The fucker is so lucky he made the light about a quarter mile down the road, lest my friend and I proceeded to drag his ass out of the car and beat him into a coma with our bike helmets...trust me, you don't ever want anyone to hit you with a safety-approve cycling helmet, because they will fuck you up.

It's a jungle out there! As angry as you get at jerks in cars there are too many jerks with guns in their cars. I have seen this in fact. Best to carry a cell phone and just get a picture of bad behavior to report it rather then just react impulsively.
Live to bike another day!

Your right to bike or whatever exists. I get that. It doesn't mean I have to be happy about seeing your spandex bloused, pointy helmeted, mid-life crisising person riding your bmx or what the fuck ever taking up space on roads where people in OTHER 2TON VEHICLES are killed quite often.

I have about the same right to safari in the heart of Africa. If I chose to do so on a daily basis, I wouldn't be bitching about the Lions and Hyenas getting all up in my shit.

I once saw a very horrifying scene. I was driving down the road here in Phoenix and this kid (I'd say between 17-19) was going down the road on his what looked like new motorcycle with his girlfriend on the back. He was going like a maniac, weaving into between lanes to get ahead of people. He had to be going close to 70mph on a busy four lane city street where the speed limit was 40mph. I remember thinking to myself that something bad was going to happen. Sure enough, about a minute later I see a big cloud of dust and traffic starts slowing down. The kid ran a red light and got hit broadside by a truck. I didn't really want to see what had happened but I felt sort of obligated stop. I parked on a side street and walked up to the intersection. The bike was in 100 pieces. The seat and the handlebars were about 50 feet from eack other, I couldn't even find the wheeler. As for the two young people, lets just say it's something that I never want to see again.
I respect bikers and I always look out for them. Most of them understand the concept of riding safely, it's the young beginner that you have to watch out for.

Read my post again, just-out-of-puberty beard boy. I wasn't even in the actually traffic lane when this moke thought it would be funny to see how close he could come to decapitating my ass without actually doing it. Not to mention that both my friend and I were doing around 30 in a 35 zone (it was long downhill grade), so even if we were in the lane and "taking up space" we weren't hindering traffic. Lastly, it was passing zone with little oncoming traffic, so the fuckwad could've passed us by without his little stunt.

What I'm saying is...

1. Bikers annoy me. I don't wish harm upon them nor do I fuck with them on the road. I just think the helmets and spandex are a little much. You're not going to the Olympics. Grow up.

2. Drivers, for the most part, are inconsiderate, irritable, stupid, distracted, singing, nose picking, eating a three course meal, tired assholes. I agree. That's why when I drive my CAR, I am defensive as fuck. Knowing that I had the right-of-way doesn't get the HALO off any sooner. For anyone that could possibly ride their ten speed ANYWHERE ELSE besides an open road, I can't possibly imagine why they wouldn't.

....you post menopausal blouse grandma.

I saw a man riding a harley or some shit with his ten year old son leaning back on the sissy bar or whatthefuckever, with his arms wrapped around behind him. I wouldn't let my 15 year old nephew ride in my car without a seat belt. What is asinine is that my nephew not wearing a seat belt is the one that will get you pulled over.

I don't care that bikers are on the road except when there is a bike path for them to be on that is right next to the road. You will not convince me though that roads were built initially for anything other than motor vehicles.

Again, if you want to ride on the road then follow the rules. Ride on the appropriate side of the road. Stack with the cars, don't go around me and in front of me up to a stop light or stop sign. I do these things when I ride on the road and I take no chances with vehicles.

I had a guy do this yesterday, he went beside me in a second lane then when the light turned green he darted right in front of me into my lane as we crossed the intersection. That is a good way to get hit and the fucker was lucky that I was watching for him..

There's a one-mile stretch of road on the North Shore that runs right in front of the house of the couple I mentioned in my prior post. About 50 feet off the road is a paved bike path that parallels the road. The problem is that everyone uses it as a jogging/walking/stroller path, so we ride on the street which is more than wide enough to allow a car to pass us with plenty of clearance and not have to drift into the oncoming lane. Still, there's this local Asian BMW-drivin' fuck that drives the road about the same time every Saturday morning and about half the time I've biked with the couple he'd happen to drive by, beep his horn, and motion for us to get off the road and onto the path. We flip him off each time and has hasn't stopped yet...

Depends on what you mean by "initially".

Problem around here is that many of the roads are only 11' paved lanes with no paved shoulder. The road right in front of my area is that way and when the bikers ride on the road and not on the bike path it backs it up for miles.

I understand what you are saying about the multi-use paths and the danger they present. I guess you pick your poison in that case. I like what they are doing in some of the communities around Indy and in Chicago where they are widening the roads and/or designating and striping bike lanes on the roads. I think this resolves a lot of issues across the board.

Multi-use paths just don't work because of the differences in speeds of those using them. Someone pushing a stroller or even jogging isn't doing 20mph like bikes will do. Then add skateboarders, rollerblading, people walking, people with dogs. That's a recipe for disaster and bikers know it.

And coming back full circle to where this all started is if you are going to ride on the road then follow the rules. It's that fucking simple.....

In those cases, I can see your point.

They've done that here in several areas...makes a huge difference. Still doesn't stop the occasional dipshit driver from acting stupid, unfortunately.
