I think you are on to something.
Time for a new B1G trophy game. These two teams could have a "Hate 'em like it's the 80's" rivalry.
Make the trophy a cabbage patch doll or Pac Man arcade game kind of thing.
Think of all PSU could do with day glo and pastel color-outs.

It's going to be hilarious watching them negotiate with their emotions and rationality to accept whoever their coaching hire ends up being. And then trying to weave a narrative that it's a home run.
Reminiscent of Moore getting the HC job at Michigan. "Harbaugh didn't gut the staff and leave only Moore behind because he sucks ...Harbaugh hand picked him! Yeah, that's gotta be it!"
I think Smith becoming HC might actually be a good move for them. It's probably their best bet of keeping what scraps are left if their 26 class.
My prediction is that the University is just as deranged and dumb as their fans. They will want a home run hire to prove to themselves that they're a Blue Blood program. Guys who are already employed and going nowhere (Deboer, Freeman etc) or big names who arent employed and have zero interest in taking over (Meyer, Gruden etc.). Then the music will stop and they will realize that there's nobody left. And Smith, probably their best option, will be on Franklin's staff at VT.
