Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Agree, but don't sell aggy so short on what happens to 17 year old "cadets" freshman year. You gotta earn those boots somehow.
Oh, I have no doubt but they signed up for it at that point.

It’s not like you wake up one day and didn’t notice all the Dom gay, fake army S&M signals.

You know the old saying; walks like a duck, with nipple clamps and assless chaps, might be a duck.

Losing 4 straight games their confidence and morale has to be near an all-time low. Facing the #1 national champs in the Horseshoe (Ohio Stadium) is going to be no easy task. Gotta know our D is going to want to pitch a shutout and send a message to their old DC. Also gotta think that Day might have a message or two he wants to send as well. Don't anticipate the good guys coming out flat in this one.

Conversely....playing the #1 team that they wish cared about them as much as they care about us might be the only motivating factor in the world that can get that team to play well.

Bigger cult: Aggie or Pedster?
This doesn’t directly address your question, but asking myself “Which would I pick if I had to attend one of these two universities?” I’d pick PSU, hands down. I’ve never set foot on either campus, but from a distance, PSU‘s cultism seems to be largely confined to football. At AtM, it seems to permeate the entire college experience.

They think they're the Army, but have way gayer traditions.
Yeah, I get that. But that's just posters on BP saying that. And videos that were shared with me. But I've not spent any time on their forum or with any of their fans.
I've spent time with Penn State fans who've said that JoePa is one step below God, if you believe in God.
I had a co-worker who went to Penn State, and still had a house in State College. He spent weekends there. It was X houses away from the house Sue still lived in. I forget what X was, but he told me several times. It was a single-digit number. He went to the same church. He told me these things, seemingly expecting to be congratulations. That his closeness to JoePa and SuePa was his claim to fame. And he was a smart guy. Probably still is.
On one of their message boards, they had a thread for stories about meeting JoePa. You'd think it was the greatest day of their lives. And the stories are never amazing. "I was walking to class and he was walking the other way. I said, 'Hi Joe.' He said, 'Hi.' What an amazing man."
Then, of course, the way that they want so much for JoePa to be totally exonerated that they're trying to figure out how to make Sandusky innocent - that's the grossest part. We know that JoePa is guilty of covering up for Sandusky. But, they feel, if Sandusky is innocent, then JoePa didn't cover anything up. So... there's that.

And he was a smart guy.
This is what'll hit home for anybody that spends any actual time around Penn State fans. People that I would call "uncle"....people that probably held me as a baby.....people that have actual good jobs with a nice family and a nice house. They're the ones giving you the most shit as soon as football comes up. It's a switch that gets flipped.........one minute you're playing with their kids in their yard, the next minute you're being told how worthless the entire state of Ohio is. And you're like 10.

This would be a false assumption

Texas A&M may have a gay army thing going on but, again, the Penn State Cult (and I am not using that with tongue in cheek at all) worship a man to the point they will enable and try to cover up child rape.

That isn't something we made up and blew out of proportion on a message board. You couldn't make it up. Some sick fucks just had to go do it.

There is no universe in which I can imagine where I have a debate in my head about cringy sports fans who may do some serious amounts of gay army stuff and people who act normal but in their heart would hold a kid down and help Jerry fuck them if they thought it would help Joe.

Ped State probably has more potential than Nebraska, but their biggest problem is that they want to be where we are, which isn't feasible.
Next year marks the 40th anniversary of Penn State's last national championship.

Since 1986, Penn State has a respectable record of 340-150-1 (.693 win pct), which is 12th best in CFB....

But Ohio State has a record of 389-95-5 (.801 win pct), which is the best in CFB.

Since 1986, Penn State has record of 10-5 (.667 win pct) in "meaningful" postseason games (B1G championship, major bowls, playoffs)....

But Ohio State has a record of 23-11, which is a very similar winning percentage (.676) but with more than twice as many meaningful games.

Since 1986, Ohio State leads the head-to-head competition 24-8 (.750 win pct), with a current 8-game winning streak (and 12 of the last 13).

And of course, Ohio State has three national championships and is well-positioned for #4 this season.

IMHO, Penn State's best comp is Tennessee, a "quality win" for an elite team but never really a threat to win it all.
