Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Regarding JT, I loved him and could not believe what went down that year. But once we learned about the lack of honesty, I knew he had to go. I remember there being two factions on this board, the "not all in" faction and then the other side. On the whole we did move on relatively quickly as compared to some other Fanbases, but it sure helps when a guy like Urban Meyer comes in and makes the program even better.

But we still have people who get riled up about the sanctions in relation to the tattoos, which indicates some people don't get that it was JTs lack of honesty that was a real problem, and the tats were just the catalyst for the fail. So, we still have some level of misguided fandom as well. I remember LJB put together a pretty solid write up here that was an honest assessment of JTs years, he certainly took some risks that were overlooked. Some folks here didn't like LJBs take on it, but again, at least both sides were represented in terms of JTs ultimate legacy.

All that said, Ohio State hasn't been a perfect program over the years. It certainly hasn't been overly shady either. Comparing the truly awful circumstances in Happy Valley with anything else in the landscape of CFB, with the exception of Baylor, is akin to comparing apples to land mines.

I went as far to open up a thread on here stating my stance "with" Jim Tressel - admittedly I pulled the trigger a bit early before I knew of everything but it was what it was at the time.

Like 86 said - I don't think he's ultimately a bad person. "Not perfect" is the right response. He made a mistake, he got rightly hammered for it, he lost what we all had been told was his dream job because of it.

Tressel was also a control freak. It's one thing to receive a tip and try to get the bottom of it and have nothing come of it, it's wholly another thing to receive a tip about what would certainly be an NCAA violation and tell the NCAA you don't know of anything (or whatever the wording was, I can't remember exactly). He knew he at least had an indication of misdeeds going on around his program and didn't tell anyone and testified to the fact. It's inexcusable.

But it pales to what we've seen at Ped State. Extra benefits and the coach saying he doesn't know about it when he does is on an whole other level of infraction than seeing/hearing/knowing of child rape and pedophilia, ignoring it and having your entire legacy tarnished because the guy was your defensive coordinator. Ultimately, the normal idea of what an NCAA violation constitutes is so not adequate with the situation that was occurring in Rhythmic Slappy Valley that the two situations aren't even remotely comparable in my IMO.

Rest Of Nation To Penn State: ‘Something Is Very Wrong With All Of You’

WASHINGTON—Stating they felt deeply unnerved by the community’s unwavering and impassioned defense of a football program and administration that enabled child sexual abuse over the course of several decades, the rest of the country informed Penn State University Friday that there is clearly something very wrong with all of them.

The nation’s nearly 320 million citizens all confirmed that the Penn State community’s repeated denials of the school’s culpability, continued displays of reverence for their former football head coach Joe Paterno, and failure to meaningfully acknowledge and respect the victims suggest that they share a very warped perspective on the world and may indeed be suffering from some kind of serious mental health condition.

“You all need to know that what you are doing and saying is extremely strange and that you should stop,” said Alex Gilani, 35, of Tacoma, WA, adding that “it should be pretty obvious” that holding halftime tributes to the late Paterno, who did nothing to prevent his former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky from sexually abusing dozens of children, is totally unacceptable. “All of us find it very strange that you cheer for him during games, paint his name on signs to hold up in the crowd, and attempt to restore a statue of him on campus.”

“That’s not normal,” continued Gilani. “In fact, it’s downright disturbing"

continued.....

I'd just like to say fuck all of you talking shit. One fucking ex employee molests some kids and suddenly everyone at the university is a child molester. No one calling out Corbet for covering it up, no outrage at Second Mile, for allowing it to go on. Joe did report this to university officials, and local police, both found nothing to go on. Continuing to accuse Sandusky could have gotten Joe put in jail himself.

They put up a statue of JoePa in the library to remind people to be quiet.

Glorious.

Not that it will mean a damn thing to the Pedsters. It simply helps to occasionally have confirmation that it's not the rest of us who are the crazy ones. Or in the minority.

Nobody should criticize that at all. The Tressel Wars of '11 are what they are. Like Mikey and Sue in Swingers, we're all better friends for it.

I like how he complains that we seem like Ohio State Football is 100% of our lives. This is an Ohio State messaged board, no? What the fuck does he think we are going to talk about here?
How could you spend any amount of time on this board and not realize at least half of our lives are about porn?
