There were people who wanted to clean house, who were probably just as horrified as all of us. It's a shame that group isn't at the forefront right now squashing mutants right and left, because that's the only thing that would have any hope of restoring people's trust in PSU now. Instead, the cultists are zombifying the Board every election, and they'll never get out of the cesspool.

The problem for them is that the Joebots give money to the University...and a lot of it, I would imagine. Once the culture is engrained that much, the rich (and even middle of the road) donors become part of the fabric of it (for another extreme example of a rich alumnus dictating a lot of University policy that has ZERO to do with any kind of situation like Sandusky but illustrates the financial point, see T. Boone Pickens).

In a sense the BOT was cowardly in that they clearly recognized what a cesspool Paterno had created and jumped to undo it when the scandal presented itself but, at the same time, didn't have the testicular fortitude to take on Paterno's legacy and the cult head on. They just made the necessary changes while letting the cult's propaganda and nonsense go unchallenged. Turning Franco's micorphone off wasn't enough. They needed to stand up in front of the news cameras and directly confront the idiocy he was preaching. Taking the statue away in the middle of the night wasn't enough. They needed to release a no-holds statement condemning Paterno and everything he had done to put them in their predicament. At the end of the day, they let the cult frame the argument.

I believe the alumni's board influence has peaked at 9 because they're talking about voting out Talieferro for lack of ideological purity next year. He, along with Crazy Joe Lubrano, was among the first group the cult elected after the scandal, and he's already up for reelection.

The list should not make the case that sandusky is innocent, but it should lead to the rightful conclusion that the narrative against Paterno, Curley, Schultz, Spanier, and Penn State Football is false.

Ray; a lot of good info there but I need something shorter, one or two pages. I would like to take it to my local state Sen and Reps to try to get them involved in BoT reforms. We cannot just rely on Corman and Yudichak to successfully get reforms through a legislature that has political loyalties aligned against PSU.

I would also send it to local newspapers and media to try to get them to re-examine just what happened so as to change public impressions and to put additional pressures on the legislature to pass meaningful reforms.

If you could construct such a page or two on your site that I and others can print out it would be very helpful Include a link to your site so that anyone that has their curiosity awakened can study the issue in more detail.

Apparently, the Board is actually waking up to the need to confront the cult head on. They have a proposal to reduce alumni trustees from 9 to 6. Needless to say the cult is enraged. Multiple threads. Crazy Joe Lubrano keeping them updated. Hilarity ensuing as we speak.

It was a stupid comment, but everyone has made a stupid comment. Her mistake was making it in front of a fairly large crowd, many of whom are not friends of Julie. With that said, she does deserve some punishment, though not a forced resignation. Put her through a few weeks of sensitivity training- it probably doesn't actually make one smarter on the subject of sensitivity, but it is a pain in the ass and will take up her time, and that in itself is a punishment

I'd agree if she wasn't the athletic director of a major college. She is an example and a leader to thousands of her own student athletes. There is no room for error at the top. She's done.
