Moving on: Covering up or just lazy
For the past two-and-a-half years, we have seen Old Main and some others in the university community pushing a move-on agenda. I see only two explanations for moving on -- covering up for transgressions or past failures or laziness. Those in Old Main, and I include the November 2011 trustees in this, are obviously close to the sandusky mess, and some of them likely are covering up something (e.g., having prior knowledge of sandusky and not acting, connections to The Second Mile, etc.). They have shifted blame and want to move on like nothing happened to protect themselves. We are left to speculate as to what they are protecting, but I have put forth a couple ideas here, and many of you have put forth others since November 2011.
Those who are pushing the move-on agenda but are not close to the sandusky mess are lazy. Rather than fight for the truth or challenge the status quo, they claim to focus on a "bright future" for Penn State. They don't have the gumption or wherewithal to revisit the ugly issues that have faced this university and certainly have no interest in facing the ugly truth and making necessary changes to ensure that this never happens again. They just want puppies and rainbows for Penn State. Think good thoughts, focus on the positives, and the rest will all go away. Everything will be fine. Of course, they fail to consider the ramifications of the university committing injustices on real people and that the move-on culture makes it likely for the university to commit such injustices in the face of scandal or controversy again.
Moving on is covering up or laziness.
