Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I wish this was something new to report on these pumpkinheads. But it isn't. It hurts all of humanity that these "people" think this way.

http://bwi.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=36&tid=168635042&mid=168635042&sid=890&style=2

Basically, the fact that Jerry Sandusky is a child molester and has been punished as such is not important to them. They have a "hyperthetical" (their spelling, not mine) where Sandusky doesn't get found guilty for as many counts as he did. The result to Penn State is that their sanctions aren't as bad. It's like I've said all along: these dunders would gladly let Sandusky go free if it meant getting their sanctions reduced. I think that if they were given the opportunity where if they sent 409 of their kids to Sandusky they'd get their 409 wins back, the jackwagons would do it. I really, really think they would.
And that's why they should not be playing football at PSU. Death penalty was the only appropriate punishment...

The fool brought his fucking cardboard cutout with him. Jesus, I don't have the slightest pang of guilt for what I just did.

 Still cracks me up - I wish that damn van had run him over, but the moment the van would have rolled towards him, he would have run to the sidelines.

Poor, delusional cult.

Fact of the matter is, the vast majority of us never cared about the statue (including Joe) until it was torn down. The statue's very absence is proof to some that Penn State University agrees that Joe Paterno allowed/enabled/facilitated child rape. This is just one (of many) reasons why, IMHO, the Penn State Board of Trustees (11/11) blows.

How about the fact that your Board of Trustees hired Louis Freeh, and he came back and said that Joe Paterno actively covered up the child rape? And that the university isn't denying it? I'm quite happy to say that I reserved judgement on Penn State until that report came out. You think that taking the statue down was admission of guilt? Perhaps it was. But I don't think many of us were waiting on the university's admission anymore. We were happy hearing the summary from the guy who was paid to perform the investigation.

Good God....This thread currently has 5 replies. In those 5 replies:
- the word victim, referring to the children who were raped and/or molested by Jerry Sandusky, is in quotes.
- the idea that JS would have only been convicted of 2-3 counts if tried differently.
- two references to how PSU is being wronged.
- the statement that JS would be a free man with better lawyers.
- one person with a brain.

Of course it took all 5 posts before the person with a brain had to chime in and say JS would be in jail no matter what lawyers he had, because he's actually guilty as sin.

Here's my problem: I still hold out hope for these guys. People like this one guy provide a glimmer of hope to me. I really should quit reading that site so my lasting memory is of this one guy. But I go back and see 20 more insane posts. It's very depressing.

100% serious: would Ohio State fans act this way if something terrible was proven about a former or current coach? I really don't think so. It was proven that Tressel covered up improper benefits, and people wanted his head. Heck, people wanted him fired before it was PROVEN he covered it up. I really think the answer to my question is "no".

I think the only other places you would see fan behavior like this at Duke or Syracuse basketball......only because the coaches have been there that long. But even those fan bases didn't have the isolation that Penn State did for so long.

Agree 100%. Heck, when Bob Knight was fired from IU, there were some small protests, but eventually they moved on with their lives. The difference being, very few people tied their entire sense of self to IU basketball (and by even more of a pathetic stretch, directly to Bob Knight). Pedsters? Not so much.....

No student riots when JT was fired. No "rallies for reinstatement." No crazy ex-players showing up in Gee's office with a cardboard JT in tow. No alumni organizations set up for the sole purpose of restoring JT's reputation.

That hits it right on the head. Their entire identity and sense of self-worth--not just as a collective fanbase but as individuals--was wrapped up in the whole fraudulent, success with honor, grand experiment, JoePed mythology. They were better than us--not just on the field but as human beings--because JoePed was better than all of our coaches.

To, all of a sudden, have that come crashing down and JoePed (and by extension themselves) held up not as an ideal but as a sick, venal and evil man nationwide was too much for their fragile, little chimp-like psyches to handle.

Agreed. No. Case studies: the ending days of Woody and Tressel as coaches at Ohio State.

Let's not forget Woody, bless his soul, wasn't without some controversy as well.
Granted I wasn't born yet... but I never saw this kind of behavior and desperate need to "vindicate" Woody.
I think everyone accepted that he had crossed a line; yet continued to respect him.
It seems the same now with Tressel. The fanbase in general can accept he made the wrong decision; yet still respect him.

Then again, the lines crossed by Woody and Tressel don't really compare to the lines crossed at Penn State... it's one thing to cover up a piddly NCAA violation.
It's quite another to cover up a heinous crime.
I think it also says a lot that both Woody and Tressel ultimately took responsibility for their actions, and were/are able to maintain good relations with the community. Even if Tressel is somewhat persona non grata at official functions.
Unlike Paterno, who forced their hand into firing him... then sued Penn State, and whose family is now suing others denying that anything ever happened under his watch.

New lawsuit

http://espn.go.com/college-football...iles-abuse-claim-vs-jerry-sandusky-penn-state

Victim 9 files abuse claim

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A young man who testified last year at Jerry Sandusky's child sexual abuse trial sued the former coach and Penn State on Thursday over what he said was nearly four years of sexual assault while in his early teens.
The lawsuit by the man known as Victim 9 in criminal court records was filed in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court after talks with the university failed to reach a settlement.
The lawsuit claims the boy, now 20 years old, would not have been victimized if university officials had properly handled other complaints about Sandusky.
"Penn State provided Sandusky the tools with which to ply the craft of a pedophile long after Sandusky's formal ties with the university were supposed to have been severed," the lawsuit said.
Victim 9's lawyers wrote that "it was the inviolable culture of financial and sporting success of Penn State football that made possible the horrific sexual abuse that forms the basis of this lawsuit."
A university spokesman declined comment, and a message left for a lawyer who has represented Sandusky in other civil litigation was not immediately returned.
The young man's lawyers called him John Doe D and asked that his identity not be disclosed. The Associated Press does not generally publish the names of sexual abuse victims.
"It's now clear that Penn State enabled Sandusky to sexually abuse more than 20 other children before Sandusky preyed on this boy," wrote the plaintiff's lawyer, Stephen E. Raynes. "Each of those tragic assaults provided Penn State with the opportunity to stop Sandusky, opportunities which Penn State squandered. We will learn through this lawsuit why that happened and what additional lessons Penn State should learn from this tragic episode in its history."

Cont'd ...
