Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

So when the Clery Act investigation comes down and literally and figuratively buttfucks that place to oblivion, 9fold is already trying to frame the discussion...

Federal investigation of possible Clery Act violations will be publicReply See the link. Note the part about erickson. Does he really have to say that? It reminds me of when he said that PSU would comply with all of freeh's recommendations long before the report came out. Another example where the fix is in?

chicken and egg argument.Reply if you are comparing facilities with 1994, of course they are better. However, in 1994, we didn't have things like the internet. Even Cable TV was in its infancy. PSU games, like every other college team, were only shown on local hookups. At that time, ND had locked up an entire network (NBC) and independents were scrambling to make sure they weren't locked out of network TV. With the popularity of cable (and now, streaming internet) that is no longer an issue.

When comparing the Big Ten to other top level conferences, the B1G offers nothing that the ACC, SEC, and others. Even the Big East might have done as well had PSU joined it in a total sports conference.

At the same time, it is no coincidence that PSU's football program dropped steadily soon after we joined the conference. did you factor that in? The B1G took us out of our natural recruiting area as kids in NJ and NY aren't excited about playing away games in Iowa, WI and Indiana.

In the meantime, the B1G abandoned PSU in the 1994 run to the national championship game (with one of the best college teams of all time), they attacked us during the JS event and we are virtually non-existent on the B1G network. (not to mention the horrific and ongoing crappy officiating when we play UM or tOSU). (don't forget the ref's comments to Mauti during the Wisky game "you are just lucky to be here").

Not sure what they've done for us, honestly, that the ACC or other conference would have done either.

Well according to that oblivious subhuman, cable TV was in its infancy in 1994. :slappy: Maybe in Slappy Valley.....

This thread is a goldmine of stupidity. http://bwi.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=36&tid=165797307&mid=165797307&sid=890&style=2

This (underlined portion) might be the one thing I've read on their boards that I totally agree with......

we'll just have to agree to disagree Reply
when we went into the B1G, we were one of the top ten programs in the country. Today, we are out of the top 25. My opinion is that we add way more to the conference than we get out. Yet, the B1G screws us at every turn. While we can disagree on money, no question the B1G hasn't added anything else. We are clearly the red-headed step child. NEB is a much better fit for the B1g...we'll see what Rutgers brings. But there is a cultural disconnect between PSU and the B1G and its been their since day one.

It's amusing how quickly they have forgotten the period from 2000-2004 when they were absolutely dreadful and the consensus pretty much was Joe Pa needed to go. Shit, they could have hired Urban Meyer before his BGSU stint, after his BGSU stint, and even after his Utah stint if they'd gotten aggressive. Imagine how different the B1G/SEC narrative would be today if Urban went to PSU instead of Florida in 2005 ...

The "clock game" against Michigan in 2005 really did fuck their heads all up. In :02 seconds they instantly forgot five years of historically shitty football and collectively decided that the conference had always been out to screw them all along.

The exact date of the beginning of Penn State's fall on the football field is November 6, 1999.

On that day, #1 Penn State, sporting a 9-0 record, lost to the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Happy Valley, 24-23. Penn State would go on to lose to Michigan and Michigan State in their next two.. and finished 10-3 (Alamo Bowl win over TAMU).

So, they finished 1999 going 1-3

They went on from there to win 26 of their next 59 games
2000: 5-7
2001: 5-6
2002: 9-4
2003: 3-9
2004: 4-7

Thus, from Nov. 6, 1999 to Nov. 20, 2004 they had a record of:
27-36 .429

I must have just imagined watching MTV, Nickelodeon, and ESPN in 1981/1982 on Continental Cablevision, and probably misremember downloading Doom shareware from the Internet in 1994.

I lived in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylshitholia in starting in 1984 and I remember watching some of the very same stuff on TV Cable of Waynesboro....but whatever....apparently cable TV was invented in the 90s

ESPN launched in 1979. It wasn't available on broadcast TV. Lol, kittens.

They had a little intro video on their scoreboard for our game in 2005 that culminated with "It's time to show the world WE ARE BACK". Who the fuck admits to going away? And why doesn't it dawn on them that being so completely wrapped up in what they do against Ohio State isn't healthy. Penn State isn't our rival, no matter how hard they try.
