Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

What? This is a story? New coach recommended a change in medical staff, and that change apparently took place. I really don't see the story here, unless you really want to stretch and say that old doc was close friends with Ugh Pa Joe and that is why he got canned.

I like making fun of the cult as much as anyone, but this really is lame in the grand scheme of Slappy Valley cult issues.

Many members of the Penn State community are troubled by the circumstances surrounding the changes, which they attribute to David Joyner, the controversial new athletic director and also an orthopedic surgeon. A member of the board of trustees at the time of his appointment, Joyner had no experience in college athletic administration and has a contentious history with Sebastianelli. In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal -- the longtime assistant football coach was found guilty of 45 counts of sexual abuse, and the school was fined $60 million by the NCAA and placed on five years' probation -- Penn State president Rodney Erickson acknowledged that "the nation's eyes are upon us," vowing to "ensure proper governance" of athletics and making a "commitment to transparency." The school even set up a website, Toward a More Open University. Erickson's appointing a university trustee as AD and the ouster of Sebastianelli -- which was done summarily, without reference to performance issues and based on the recommendation of Bill O'Brien, who had just finished his first year as football coach -- appear squarely at odds with those aims. "Here we are trying to change our image and approach administrative changes with clarity and openness," said Mac Evarts, former dean of Penn State's College of Medicine and a current professor of orthopedics at the university, "and we have another example of a decision being driven by athletics."

The point is that it's business as usual inside the bubble at PSU, hiring cronies and settling personal scores:

Erickson's appointing a university trustee as AD and the ouster of Sebastianelli -- which was done summarily, without reference to performance issues and based on the recommendation of Bill O'Brien, who had just finished his first year as football coach -- appear squarely at odds with those [transparency] aims. That's exactly how it's playing out on BWI - the Pedsters are torn between supporting O'Buttchinian and continuing JoePed's legacy of lifetime employment for those he trusted.

BTW, I feel sorry for O'Buttchinian this morning, as he gets rid of the old and corrupt bastards that have inhabited that place for so long, he will run into the cult time and again.

Oh and hey look - Head Cultist in Chief Lubrano has chimed in and made himself look like an ass, all the while taking shots at the Head Coach of a football team. Culture problem much??

I just thought of another similarity between St. JoePa and the media's portrayal of a current event story: this Ariel Castro guy - his lawyers have come out and said that it's not fair that the media has painted him to be some kind of monster. With JoePa, the media has painted him to be some kind of monster.

We look at Castro's lawyers as being crazy.
We look at JoePa's fans as being crazy.

Ha. This thread is funny.

They're discussing their "beloved" Land Grant Trophy - the final game of the season with Michigan State. These tards think the Big Ten should be wrapped around their finger, and the Big Ten should be happy to take it up the ass to please their superiors in State College.

Who our season ending-game should be is easy ...Reply we should alternate playing at Maryland and at Rutgers. Sparty can play the other.

A game the Saturday after Thanksgiving is ALWAYS going to be challenging for us attendance-wise (witness this year), let's always conclude the season on the road at a site a number of our alums are geographically close to.

1. Sparty ought to be thankful for your table scraps.
2. I get a picture of some old-timey codger shaking his finger in the Big Ten's face demanding that this is how the schedule should be.

Re: Warning: Land Grant Trophy rumorReply This is why I wanted um and msu split into different divisions. We will continue to get stuck with msu as our last game because the b1g won't want to show favoritism between Maryland or Rutgers with the right to be our rival. They will be each others rival. Rivals will be um/osu, ind/pur, mar/rut and psu/msu. We r stuck.

The RIGHT to be Penn State's rival? The line forms to the left.

I don't see OSU or scUM having trouble selling out the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Just sayin.

In what bizarre world do MSU or OSU fans regard them as rivals ? Both have one rival.

In the same world where a man who placed "not wanting to ruin anyone's weekend" on a higher plane of importance than notifying the police of a possible child molestation is worshiped as an infallible god.
