Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I mentioned in my previous post in this thread that there were two 'concepts' I see on PSU boards from some posters that I don't follow. The first was that the NCAA penalties were in response to Jerry's crimes and designed to appease the victims...coupled with then saying the NCAA failed on this front. This is a false arguement as the NCAA decision had nothing to do with Sandusky and were not constructed to ease the pain of the victims...those who support this logic don't understand why the NCAA felt compelled to act.

The second disconnect I see from some PSU fans is their ability to blame Curley, and Schultz but defend Paterno. I get separating Spanier....but in my head Paterno, Schultz and Curley all did the same thing...pass it on and wash their hands of it. If you blame one..you must blame them all as they each played the same role as best I can see. And if you defend one...they you defend them all. The fact that some are leaving Paterno out but throwing hate rants toward Curley and Schultz tells me they accept how wrong it was to take no action..but simply refuse to get their head around the apparent reality that Joe took the exact same tact as C&S.

What I find baffling is that they can't distinguish between saving Joe and saving PSU. The primary thrust of attacks on the Freeh report is that it doesn't really prove Joe knew - as though proving Joe didn't know makes all this go away. But even if Joe didn't know the AD, President, et al. are still just as guilty and sanctions still apply.

I think in their heart of hearts they know that what JoePa did by turning a blind eye to these events was in fact an egregious error on his part. I also believe that they had placed JoePa so high on a pedestal that they can't reconcile the fact that anyone placed in such a demigod status could've allowed this. It is much easier to hate on and blame Curley and Schultz because their status is so meaningless in the scheme of things. Further yet, they have flat out convinced themselves that there is just no way that JoePa could have known and that Curley, Schultz and others were to blame because they insulated JoePa from the truth and if he had known, he would have acted.

No, in their hearts of darkness they feel that Joe could never do any wrong and that the victims (or whatever they want to call them) are simply out to get money and destroy something of which they are jealous. These victims (or whatever they want to call them) are obviously fans of Ohio State and Michigan because they are part of the overriding conspiracy of the B1G since the day that Penn State was forced to join with a gun pointed at Joe Pa's head. Also, they have convinced themselves that Joe Paterno's death left a leadership void all the while he was too old and senile to realize a grown man could rape an underage boy.

Oh what I would give if one of these assholes would have been smart enough to tape the conversation with JoePed when he told them to sit on the allegations in 2001 and not get the police or child services involved. Even with that I bet these mutants wouldn't blame Joe.

Where Ped Aggy should be 24 months from now

  1. Out about a third of a billion dollars, which I think is realistic since they're already out over a hundred and the civil suits have yet to begin.
  2. Football struggling to win 4 games a year and looking back to the good old days when they could actually snag recruits away from Wofford.
  3. Extreme difficulties recruiting top notch faculty
  4. Suspended or on probation from the AAU.
  5. Having to take 23 ACT kids from Penn to replace the 29-31 kids from the Washington-Boston corridor who are no longer applying.

I'm not sure all this will happen, but it should happen.

Sometimes, there's a google image search for its time and place. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a fitting for my life size Boo Boo Bear outfit.

Oh look guys something you don't see every day, a PSU alum making sense.
Arguing that the NCAA overstepped its bounds and has no right to butt into this criminal case is ridiculous. That is the same type of legal-loophole thinking that Joe Paterno, Mike McQueary and other top officials who knew about Sandusky's behavior used when they "followed the letter of the law" and reported to their superiors that Sandusky may have done "something" to a boy in the shower that awful night in 1998. They reported this suspected rape to their bosses and then went home. I think we got off easy.

It's from one of the founders of ESPN the Mag. http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/27/opinion/jones-penn-state-trustees/index.html

The cult is turning on Lubrano.

Fabulous Stuff.

Anthony, is there absolutely no chance of fighting the NCAA on this? The NCAA punished a school that has never broken the rules, and they punished the school hard. Then after punishing Penn State, Emmert talked about how the NCAA is dedicated to integrity and academics. There has been no better example of the commitment to academics and integrity in college football than Penn State. And, Emmert has created a circus on our campus with coaches from other schools running around trying to poach our players. This is a disgrace.

true.
JoePed had way too much integrity to ruin someone's weekend over an issue as trivial as child rape.

I'd like to second Southeastern's question. It seems as though this university has been adrift since Joe left the stage. What steps are being taken to fill that leadership void since clearly Ericksen is not the man to fill it?

so JoePed WAS running the entire university?

I thought he was just a feeble old man who bowed down to his superiors.

A lot of us are far less worried about whether the next President has a Ph.D than if he's PSU.

don't give a shit if he's qualified, as long as he is a loyal member of the cult.

It bears repeating:

The grand jury investigation lasted 7 months. Among its results:

JoePa's dismissal

On the first weekday following win #409.

I know you're pointing out the fact that the grand jury waited until #409 had occurred before releasing its findings, but they waited much longer than your numbers indicate, probably taking over 24 months before publishing the presentment and arresting people.

When the story first broke on March 31, 2011, the reporter stated that the grand jury had already been investigating for 18 months.

Sandusky was arrested on the Saturday after win #409, an off day for PSU. JoePa was let go on the following Wednesday, November 9th - which was 11 days after win #409.

If this is truly the case then there must be a certain pervasive mental sickness that abounds.
