Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I thought the NCAA put a stop to the scheduling of a 13th game to get around the post season ban?

Dunno. I do know that if they do manage to make the trip out to Hawaii for that 13th game, they better never complain about the lack of funds as a result of the $60MM fine or lost bowl revenue......

Blackledge on Mike and Mike right now discussing situation. Feels to broad of a brush has been painted regarding the culture at Penn State. Defies anyone to name a school who has done more over the last xx years in terms of winning, academics, graduating players, blah blah blah then PSU.

While I note the above, tor the most part he really has done a very good job of answering questions and discussing the situation.

I guess the subject of JoPa sending failing black players to community college to prop up his claim of graduating more black players didn't factor into Blackledge's argument of "broad strokes"?
Or taking punishment for football players in trouble away from the student council?
Or the local authorities helping Joe keep crimes out of the papers?
On and on.
Blackledge is part of the cult. Did we expect different from him?
A culture of lies, deceit and obstruction of justice.
A fraud.

C'mon Nike. Pimp these bitches out. I'm picturing something that's a cross between Cats: The musical and a bad episode of Buck Rogers in the 25th century.

If this went through the normal procedures, that 13th game would not have been allowed. But, since this was not specified in the punishment handed down by Emmert, that this 13th game will be allowed.

Of course the NCAA will need to clarify it, and they still might not allow it, but as of now there is no language in the sanctions that don't allow it.

Also interesting of O'Brien talking about trying to schedule a couple of big non-conference games too so the kids have something to play for. Which would be hilarious if they play USC/Oklahoma/Texas and lose by 60

I look at what has happened since the 'hammer' hit USC and I think we may see the same thing at Penn State.

They still have a 100K stadium that they can fill even when playing Ohio U., Temple and Navy, they still have TV revenue, they still have a solid -if somewhat bat[Mark May] crazy- fan base and they still have a decent first and second string on both sides of the ball. They may loose a few 4 star recruits who are shopping for the best deal, but there are plenty of 3 stars who are willing to play knowing they're not going to the NFL. The in-state competition remains Pitt and Temple, one in the MAC and one barely better than a MAC team.

Even with these losses, restrictions, they remain in better shape than Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, probably Illinois. They will lose ground to Iowa, Michigan State and Wisconsin. They will struggle stay at #3 behind OSU, Michigan over the next ten years, but hell, they've been there for the last 2 decades.

It's hard to guess the full impact of the sanctions but this is a possibility.
The USC situation will bare watching. But Ped State isn't USC in recruiting, that would seem to indicate a lower expectation.
