Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Probably because PSU isn't a team the Dawgs play with any regularity, but I'll be so happy when this thread dies down and we can start talking pre-season football.

I'm so sick of statues, perverts and death penalities. :shake:

Re: I think the Big 10 conference deserves some credit...ReplyJust a small detail but there were no children raped on the PSU campus. The AG used that charge in the presentment to gain publicity knowing full well that there was no evidence for it. Sandusky of course was acquitted on that charge but that does not matter because it served it's purpose.

Quote:
1. Censure: The accepted findings support the conclusion that our colleagues at Penn State, individuals that we have known and with whom we have worked for many years, have egregiously failed on many levels--morally, ethically and potentially criminally. They have failed their great university, their faculty and staff, their students and alumni, their community and state--and they have failed their fellow member institutions in the Big Ten Conference. For these failures, committed at the highest level of the institution, we hereby condemn this conduct and officially censure Penn State.

2. Probation: The Big Ten Conference will be a party to the Athletic Integrity Agreement referenced in the NCAA release, and will work closely with the NCAA and Penn State to ensure complete compliance with its provisions over the 5 year term of the Agreement.

3. Ineligibility: As referenced in the NCAA release, Penn State's football team will be ineligible for postseason bowl games. It will also be ineligible for Big Ten Conference Championship Games for four years, a period of time that runs concurrently with the NCAA postseason bowl ban imposed this morning.

4. Fine: Because Penn State will be ineligible for bowl games for the next four years, it will therefore be ineligible to receive its share of Big Ten Conference bowl revenues over those same four years. That money, estimated to be approximately $13 million, will be donated to established charitable organizations in Big Ten communities dedicated to the protection of children.

Too bad PSU doesn't have a game scheduled at Stanford in the next couple of years. The Stanford Marching Society would have a show worthy of the crime and probably rated XXX.

I guarantee this will be very interesting radio beginning at 3:00 p.m. if anyone would like to listen. Madden holds nothing back and the mixture of Pedsters and Pitt fans will be fun to be sure.

Among more significant punishments, the NCAA vacated all of Penn State's wins from 1998-2011. Joe Paterno now has 298 career victories. Grambling's Eddie Robinson (408 wins) now ranks No. 1 among Division I coaches. Florida State's Bobby Bowden (377) is No. 1 among major-college coaches.
Yesterday, Penn State took down the iconic Paterno statue.
The eradication of Paterno has started. His record: GONE. The statue: GONE. His reputation: DESTROYED. Soon, it will be like Paterno never existed.
As Penn State moves forward, that's probably best. Heartbreaking, but necessary. The hero worship that made all this malfeasance possible must be eliminated. Penn State won games while kids were being raped. Paterno knew, but didn't act.
Like it or not, that taints those wins. That taints that era.
Penn State fans have not disappointed. Many are crying and wailing like they're the victims. What's your complaint NOW? You still got football. Money still comes into the State College community. The current team still gets to play.
But Penn State alumni/fans wanted ZERO DISCIPLINE. Statue up, record intact, move forward, business as usual. That attitude reflects the culture the NCAA wants to demolish. For Penn State football to truly heal, this punishment was NEEDED. Anyone who thinks otherwise is lacking in terms of common sense and human decency.
Three questions remain:
*Why hasn't The Second Mile been throughly investigated?
*What did Gov. Tom Corbett know, and when did he know it?
*Why are Larry Johnson and Ron Vanderlinden still coaching at Penn State? THEY ALL KNEW.
Perhaps the award-winning Central Pennsylvania media can investigate, and not wait 10 years this time.
