Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Espin citing a CBS News report that the NCAA is going to level "unprecedented" penalties against PSU football AND the University. Mark Emmertt to make announcement at 9:00 am tomorrow. Looking for link for verification. OK...got beat to the punch with the link!

I thought BTN wasn't a news organization

Must've taken a ton of heat for not showing the Freeh Report press conference. Actually brought in Dave Revsine and Gerry DiNardo on a Sunday morning to show the statue being removed.

Color me skeptical. The NCAA could only have gotten the PSU answers to their questions in the past few days. Not much time to review and analyze if you don't want to be accused of rushing to judgement (although they have had the Freeh report). Doesn't the University get a chance to comment on proposed sanctions? I would have been less surprised to see that PSU was announcing self imposed sanctions on Monday.

On the other hand - if they are going to shut it down it is best if they do so immediately to give players some time to transfer. If PSU is going to agree with whatever the NCAA is going to do (and they are in no position to do anything else) I guess it could happen this quickly.

I anticipated heavy sanctions prior to the season - I just saw them another week away at minimum.

My only guess as to how fast this came down is that NCAA and PSU worked together on penalties, PSU either recommended them to NCAA or immediately agreed to them.

If this is the case, and the result is only one year of no football, I will be disappointed... and I expect to be disappointed...
