Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Right after the targeting and PI on Purdue's first TD drive (when I made that comment) there was a page or two of bitching and comments like "PSU 7, Refs 7, Purdue 3"

I don't know how you could debate that PI. The targeting was weak but it was targeting by the letter of the rule.

HAHA - I love it when people give points to the refs.
I didn't see the first quarter, so I missed the targeting and the pass interference (and the cult's whining about either). I went back and looked at the targeting, and I think it should have been called a late hit or an unsportsmanlike play. The receiver clearly didn't catch the ball and the defender had plenty of time to not hit the receiver. But, the replay booth can't call down a review for that. And, the hit was "forceable contact to the head or neck area on a defenseless player". I agree that it was weak but targeting by the letter of the rule.

The targeting wasn't weak, and it looks like Joel Klatt has found his stupid hill to die on. The ball was incomplete, laid on the ground for multiple seconds, then the dipshit Penn St player came diving in to get a free shot on the Purdue WR. Since he's a dipshit, he did it by lowering his helmet into the head of the Purdue player. All 3 of the clueless morons on TV whined about targeting as a whole and ignored the fact that a player just got speared in the head by a defender who had no reason to be anywhere near him. Yes, the rule is horribly enforced. Yes they've gotten it wrong a ton of times. That doesn't mean you can just bitch about every targeting call from now until forever. A Purdue WR dropped a pass, stopped playing because the play was dead, then got speared in the brain by an idiot. And Joel Klatt wants you to know he's championing for CTE or something I guess.

even my wife who knows less than 0% about football says "woah is that a late hit or something". it was 100% blatant and typical psu bullshit

It was crown of the helmet to helmet contact, as well. I recorded and was catching up in the game, so I saw the conversation about the call before I saw it and was surprised that people were upset about it.

You can be upset that a player gets kicked out of the game, but the helmet to helmet on that play is the literal definition of what they’re trying to get players not to do (even ignoring that it was arguably late as well.)

Lol, I saw it on YouTube. Dude lowered his helmet, and hit the guy in the head AND it was late. Fucking Pedsters, the most delusional fanbase in sports history. The ref was blowing his whistle and signaling incomplete before the Ped player cheap-shoted him.

Fuck them.

https://bwi.forums.rivals.com/threads/so-carter-gets-called-for-‘targeting’.323112/

OP complains that their dude (Carter) was ejected and Maryland had a play way worse (I haven't seen it) and they don't get called.
Not only that, but both Carter and the Purdue player thought the ball was live (i.e., the ball was thrown slightly backward and therefore a lateral and a live ball) and the whistle had not sounded. The Purdue player was not "in the act of catching the ball" - he clearly was "in the act" of going after what he thought was a live ball. Was a horrendous call especially given that no flag was thrown on play and the call was completely fabricated from Replay Booth.
Uh, no - not even slightly backward. Yeah, he made a reach for the ball on the ground, but no, you don't go for the receiver's head.
I thought that Carter really led with his shoulder, but he crushed the Purdue player with such force that there was secondary head to head and since the whistle probably blew as well the replay official gave him the targeting call. We got cheated out of seeing Carter make a couple plays… but hopefully he plays a lot this coming week.
I think that bad call gave them some momentum to get that TD.
So... if Penn State hadn't come back to win, they could have blamed the referees. Again. Ha.
A friend of mine works for the Big10 in the review booth, he is part of the crew that does the reviews. He is working a Big10 game later tonight. I asked him his opinion of the call during our game. He didn't watch our game but said he would check it out. Just talked to him today. He said his crew reviews that play this morning and talked about it and it was definitely NOT targeting and it will be discussed next week by all Big10 officials.
Yeah - a friend of mine. He lives in Canada. You wouldn't know him.
I would add that the both players going for the loose ball is what caused the shoulders and heads to be at the same level. The ball was on the ground, both players had to lower themselves to go after it.
Yeah - he was going for the ball. Right.
Only in the b1g and only against PSU could this penalty be fabricated out of thin air when no flag was thrown on the field "because Purdue asked for it" (which is the reason given by the commentating crew as to why it was being reviewed). Then on PSU's final drive, the Purdue d-back intentionally hits Warren helmet-to-helmet (literally targets Warren's head with first contact) as he is attempting to catch the ball (which he does catch on play before PSU's game-winning TD) - no flag, no review, no nothing.
Only in Penn State do we believe that commentating crews have any opinions that mean anything. Just like only Penn State fans think the Big Ten had votes for national championship in 1994. I don't remember the Purdue hit on Warren - I'll have to look for that.
The hit just now by Ransom on notre dames sliding qb was more egregious targeting and wasn’t reviewed. Clear helmet to helmet contact on a sliding qb. Same crew as our game I think.
Everyone needs to love us more - we're the victims!!!
I was amused how PSU was called for OL Holding on their very first series, but Purdue throws the ball 58 times and their OL isn't called for a single holding call.

Now don't get me wrong, the hold called on PSU tackle in first series as Purdue defender attempting to turn corner was absolutely holding under rulebook, but it was ticky-tack compared to what they let Purdue get away with all night long.

A call like this on the very first series can impact the way an O-lineman will play - essentially, it sends the message, "we're watching closely and we'll throw flags if you hold". The diametric opposite message was sent to Purdue - no flags were thrown regardless of what they did including outright tackles of PSU rushers - the message sent to Purdue was, "You can hold with impugnity" and Purdue did.
Yeah - back to whining about holding calls / non-calls.

Cliffs notes version:
"We get no respect - we still aren't ranked."
"Weird. We're ranked in the ESPN poll."
"Only dummies look at that."
"Who are you calling a 'dummy'?"
"Oh yeah? You aren't my friend, anymore."
"Awww."
"Well, maybe if we had done more to win that game, rather than let Purdue just lose it, we'd be ranked higher."
"You're an idiot."
"No, you are. Look at all my fax and evidence that we're still bad and Purdue just happens to be worse."
"No, I refuse to read your post. Instead, why don't you read my post about how we're awesome and are the greatest."
I am guessing they were too busy to see the best two-minute drill in the history of college football.
