Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Sorry to resurrect this dead thread (I found it on Page 2), but I thought this was funny.

https://bwi.forums.rivals.com/threads/its-time-to-honor-the-paternos.246506/

OP says, "Let's honor Joe!"
Responses are mostly, "Go home, Pitt Boy! We know what you're doing."
Then they become, "But he's right, we SHOULD honor Joe."

Then this made me laugh:

True...but pathetic for all he has done (and is still doing) for our school.

Isn't he dead? What is he doing now for the school?

Maryland is going to do a "blackout" against Penn State.
"So what?" is the right response and that's also the response most people give.
Then one dude points out that it really isn't imitating Penn State's White Out, since Penn State didn't invent the White Out. Nor did Penn State begin the whole "Zombie Nation" song.

Responses:
Not college football teams. And first college football team to play it.
Penn State was the first college football team (and I think, but am not 100% sure, the first American team of any sport) to play Zombie Nation (which is actually not the name of the song, but whatever...). And Seven Nation Army. Both obviously originated with European soccer (fart noises).

They were not the first to do a White Out. But if you mention "White Out" 97% of sports fans will associate it with Penn State.
I’ll never forget being at a PSU/OSU game a few years after we started doing 7 nation army, and the OSU fans started doing it. I was so confused as to why they were copying us.

The important thing to remember is that PSU is nothing special, has never had an original idea or done anything of note. Whatever it is, someone else has already done it first or better.

Lest we forget their stellar record of 7-8 in their fabled white out games with three of those wins coming against Michigan in ‘10 (7-6), ‘13 (7-6), and ‘17 (8-5), one coming against Illinois in ‘08 (5-7), and one against Notre Dame in ‘07 (3-9).

and no telling what the record is when they do all that stupid shit anyway but it isn't an official white out game.

Take for instance the 2007 ass beating they took (37-17) at the hands of OSU. It was at night, they were all wearing white and going nuts (for a while) but they count the win over the aforementioned 3-9 ND team that year.

anyway, after last year they are 2-3 in their official white out games vs OSU

hope that doesn't ruin any weekends

Ha, I didn’t even check beyond the first Penn State website I found that claimed to track the games. Clearly they take their white outs as seriously as their ring of recognized seasons at the stadium.

"BWI: Penn State played that song before the White Stripes did; they copied it off us!"

That dude must have been at every college football stadium at the same time, and knows for sure that PedState was the first college football stadium to play it. Cool.

From Tim May's podcast, interviewing Sam McKewon, who covers Nebraska football for the Omaha World-Herald. In the middle of answering a question about why Nebraska fans are so widely know for being nice to visiting teams' fans:

...Ohio State fans have been, in my opinion, good. They're not Wisconsin. They're not Penn State.

I think when you have a certain level of success, with the exception of Penn State's fans, who are horrible, you tend to carry yourself with a little bit of class...
