Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Was today MSU's spring game? Someone on BWI posted a picture of their crowd. Maybe 750 people showed up. One guy on BWI cries that the announcer said that their 3-hour rain delay with PSU turned their season around. Ha.
Of course, they lost to Ohio State (48-3) the week after they beat Penn State. So much for that idea.

So I venture over to BWI to wade through some of the Cult's outrage about the Joesus movie. and I stumble upon a new story about Joesus' saintly nature. In all my readings of BWI, I never knew about Joesus' children being threatened with death and Joesus inquiring to his staff as to whether or not the anonymous letter writer could be the father a former player who needed their help. I'm guessing Jerry was too busy to look into the status of former PSU players.

marshall23: "As many of you know, back in the 70's Joe received correspondence demanding he step down before the last two games of the season. The letter indicated it was a "heartbroken father" of a former player. (Too early to be Surma). The threat stated that one of his children(JVP) would be killed if he did not comply. The FBI was involved, the author was never apprehended and likely was a gambler or something.
Regardless, even though the letter threatened the life of his children.....Joe met with staff and asked them all to research and see if there was a former player who might be in dire straights and needed his help.
That ladies and gentleman, is Joe Paterno."

Shockingly, the Cult has also taken to harassing actor Greg Grunberg (he plays Scott Paterno in the movie) on Twitter. The Cult also has a problem with Sara Ganim being portrayed as a hero instead of a whore and victim (or whatever you call him) Aaron Fisher being made to look sympathetic. The Cult also encouraged each other to sign up for HBO, then tell their cable sompany they want to cancel HBO because of the network's hit job on Joesus.

I'm not seeing a lot in that anecdote indicating Saint Joe was very worried about his own kids' lives. Maybe that's implied with the FBI involvement.

Anyway, the movie: Wouldn't call it HBO's very best work. To me, it came off as in a category of made-for-TV movies I've seen over the years that are just a monotonal reenacting of events you've seen on the news. If one was describing an individual with the same tone, you'd say they had a flat affect. Perhaps that's the problem with the creators not wanting to make a clear decision about Paterno's character. It's also possible the film would have more impact on people who haven't been monitoring BWI's conduct for the last six years (thanks to this thread).

I'm certain the Cult was not thrilled with the final scene being tacked on showing the guy claiming he told Paterno about Jerry in the 1970's.
Maybe they should have started from there.

edit: Forgot this major omission--they edited down the Beat Nebraska! speech. I was listening, and didn't hear Pacino say "or whatever you want to call them." Have I forgotten history and just imagined that actually happened? That's hardly an insignificant detail to leave out.

I like how the bar is set so low for Paterno after doing jack shit about Jerry Sandusky molesting boys under his nose for decades that asking someone to look into something is somehow an amazing act of generosity.

Joe Paterno’s wife had her purse stolen from their car and he called the police to report it. That, everyone, is the kind of humanitarian that Joe Paterno was!

It’s like deep down in their hearts they know the truth, and making up shit to show that he demonstrated even a minimal amount of interest or effort to help someone makes them feel better about him destroying his legacy, career, and the lives of others by doing nothing when it mattered most.

To me, this little story from the cultist is such a great example of the way they do things;

The FBI was involved, the author was never apprehended and likely was a gambler or something.

So a death threat is received and the FBI is "involved" but "the author was never apprehended".

Maybe, just maybe, the FBI knows what the fuck they are doing when it comes to criminal investigations and they found nothing? Could that mean this thing was total bullshit? I mean, you go mail a death threat to someone that gets the FBI involved and see if they somehow miss you completely.

Or could it mean Joesus knew damn good and well he didn't want the FBI running around his fiefdom looking into "things" for fear they stumble across something he knew was happening that went far beyond the alleged death threat? It would explain why he had his staff supposedly continue to look into the death threat after the FBI had exited the scene.

lastly, "and was likely a gambler or something" ...what in the fuck? Where does that even come from? If you are just going to paint someone as a bad guy why not say he was likely a communist or member of Oprah's book club or something like that? A gambler? Gamblers aren't the ones who threaten people you dumb fucks, gamblers borrow money it's the people they borrow it from that have been known to make a threat or two (and they damn sure don't write it in a letter and mail it to you).

I would say that what amazes me, but really with these fucktards nothing does amaze me, is the fact that they rail so hard against the fact that JoShit didn't know anything from the 71, 76, or 77 incidence, that he only knew about 1998 and 2001. WTF? Knowing ONE FUCKING TIME you dumbfucks is ENOUGH! I don't give a shit about the 70's, 80's or when, he knew ONCE! That is enough. He did nothing. Period. He didn't do shit. More kids were then harmed. End of Story.

One other note on the movie--it was interesting to me how differently they portrayed Jay vs. Scott. Jay was played as a total asshole (no argument from me there), while Scott was treated quite sympathetically. Oddly, it was then Scott who is credited with issuing the family's statement saying the depiction of his family was fictionalized. "Numerous scenes, events and dialogue bear no resemblance to what actually transpired."

So, what's that mean, Scott? That actually you're an asshole, too?

As many of you may know, on November 24th 1971, DB Cooper hijacked a Boeing 727 and parachuted mid flight to an uncertain fate carrying over $200K in ransom money. The FBI got involved but Cooper was never apprehended, probably aided by a gambler or something. Regardless, even though he was busy ignoring the allegations of child rape against his defensive coordinator and preparing to beat Nebraska.....Joe met with staff and asked them all to research and see if there was a former player who might be in dire straights and needed his help. That ladies and gentleman, was Joe Paterno.
