Peach Bowl: #1 Georgia vs #4 tOSU, Sat 12/31 8 ET on ESPN

Stroud's numbers are down across the board this year

Look at his QBR vs some of the better pass defenses he faced this year
View attachment 33978

Defenses he faced Avg Passer rating against rank:
#2 Penn State
#3 tsun
#8 Iowa
#28 Maryland
#33 Rutgers
#35 Notre Dame

He was above average vs Iowa but held to his season average, or well below, against the rest. UGA is #9 this year in that same metric.

You tell me what looks like an outlier and what looks like a trend.

I don’t think it needs to be stated, but just in case, his top two targets from last year are now the top 2 rookie WRs in the NFL.

Edit: and his #3 was sidelined all season. It’s not an excuse, and I agree with the limitations that have been stated, but some drop off has to be expected.

Yeah exactly.... the guy lost his top 3 WRs from last year. Last year his #3 was Chris Olave and this year it's Julian Fleming.

Speaking of which we really need Julian to have a nice game on 12/31. He doesn't need to dominant or anything but it'd be huge if he could go for 50 yards and a touchdown.

this…and Stover get his blocks and make plays as a receiver. Hoping he is healthy and can be a difference maker vs liability like the Game.

I know you know this but I'll say it anyway, losing his top WR's from last year doesn't help with the fact that this year, he feasts on bad defenses and struggles against good ones when you look and see that UGA is as good a pass defense as he's seen all year.

UGA's defense is very good, but if the Bucks can attack something, their pass defense is what you attack. They were ranked outside the top 50 in pass defense the last time I checked.

Certainly disrespected (some of that was earned), but does this team - starting with their head coach - have the make up to channel that into a strong performance?

I have doubts, unfortunately.

  • Left Ann Arbor in '21 with Simple Jim rubbing their coaches face in it about 3rd base
  • every other possible form of mouth running and disrespect you can imagine ringing in their ears
  • heard this shit for a year
  • had the shot at redemption/revenge in their home stadium
  • had the better talent
  • did fuck all with it
  • shit down one leg
  • pissed down the other
  • grabbed their own throat with both hands and choked themselves hard
Now they mean it? Now all of a sudden they are going to find some balls? Be fueled by disrespect? Be calm under pressure? Stare down adversity?

Ohio State feels like a team that's going to do the same shit all over again.

Not sure where this is coming from but just for the record:

UGA defensive ranks
Opp yards per attempt #13
Opp Avg team passer rating #9

Those are the important rate stats. They have given up a lot of counting stats (yards per game etc) because they've been ahead so much that teams have had to pass 58% of the time against them. It's the second highest opp pass rate % in the country.

They faced a Tennessee passing attack every bit as good as Ohio States and held Hooker to a passer rating of 113! going 22/33 for 195 yards.

I really don't understand this "UGA pass defense is weak" narrative. Especially given the reality of how our own pass attack has struggled against any defense with a pulse.

I've said before that I don't think Ohio State should be anyone's first head coaching job. Harbaugh's a dick, but he had 3 head coaching jobs and had success at all of them - each time moving up a level - before getting the TTUN gig. Ryan Day was anointed by Urban Meyer. The "3rd base" thing has merit until proven otherwise, unfortunately.

100% agree.

Same with Charlie Weiss, Marcus Freeman and any of the other litany of great coordinators who weren't qualified/ready to be a HC of a major P5 team for the first time out.

Jim Tressel's first head coach job was Youngstown State. Urban Meyer's first HC job was Bowling Green. Woody's first HC job was Denison. Ryan Day? Ohio State.

Guys need to make their learning-on-the-job mistakes somewhere else before taking over a major program, but here we are taking on the #1 team in the country.
