Peach Bowl: #1 Georgia vs #4 tOSU, Sat 12/31 8 ET on ESPN

Off Topic but we have 20+ days to talk about the game so I don't mind.
Choosing not to focus on the Buckeyes yet and instead enjoy Bama fans melting down because they were excluded despite TCU's loss.

Yeah, Bammer, nothing screams big time fearless program like scheduling Utah State, LA-Monroe, and AUSTIN PEAY as your out of conference games. Then again, you did have to get by Vandy in that juggernaut conference schedule while struggling against AtM and Mississippi. Definitely playoff caliber.

I was talking to my cousin who works in the UGA Athletic Department(and was actually the Asst AD for sometime), and in his words "I'm worried about our defense, not consistent enough in the secondary. And the staff is seriously worried about Stroud and WRs". I kept saying that they demolished LSU in the SECCG, and dominated most teams with their defense. And he kept saying, they have holes in the defense backfield that can be exploited, and their offense isn't balanced enough. But he didn't go far enough to pick OSU to upset UGA. Still said UGA would win by same margin as scUM if the OSU coaches didn't learn their lesson. Which he believes they won't, and that will be their undoing. TIFWIW, but just passing on some info from inside the UGA athletic department

If I had a dollar for every time we pointed out that tsuns defense was designed to stop their own offense. It's like we switched places with them circa 2004.

:sad2:
Small disagreement that OSU’s offense schemes guys open. I certainly didn’t see it in person. Mich had guys 5 yards open (or worse) on their passing plays.

Seemed like every OSU throw had a defender on him. Didn’t see scheme or talent letting the Bucks run free. And that’s with a lot of time to throw.

Heck, most of Stroud’s throws are Super Marv sideline catches. Or you know…WR screen.

I know nothing of Georgia’s secondary but the Bucks offensive creativity and overall WR play need to step up.

All teams are still subject to the CFP committee's final ranking. So in theory, had Purdue upset Michigan for example (and its year 2024) Michigan likely stays a top 4 seed. Same could be said had LSU upset Georgia.....Georgia would certainly remain inside top 4 and get a bye. LSU would then probably be on the fringe of either hosting a 1st rd game or be an away team as one of "last 4 in". Purdue would get an auto invite and likely play an away game as one of the bottom seeds.

If you go by current CFB rankings, the playoff would've been:

1. Georgia - Bye
2. Michigan - Bye
3. TCU - Bye
4. OSU - Bye
#5 Alabama hosts #12 Tulane (highest ranked non P5 school....keep in mind Tulane actually finished #16 so you'd hear belly-aching from teams 13,14,15 who get bypassed by a non P5)
#6 Tennessee hosts #11 Penn State
#7 Clemson hosts #10 USC
#8 Utah hosts #9 Kansas State

Hope that helps....

Going a round deeper...

OSU would play winner of Bama/Tulane
TCU would play winner of Tennessee/PSU
Michigan would play winner of Clemson/USC
Georgia would play winner of Utah/Kansas State

All these games will be "neutral site" Bowl games.
Clemson and Utah would actually get the 3 and 4 spots being conference champions. TCU 5 v Tulane OSU 6 vs pedsters, Bama 7 v USC, tennecheat 8 v k state.
That certainly makes the ttun game matter.

Is your cousin Coach Kirby Smart?

I shudder to think what practice is going to be like for the secondary over the next month. 500 yards and 30 points is unacceptable and Kirby essentially coaches the secondary. They are going to get their asses cooked by the top Dawg.

500 yards of total offense and only about 30 points is what Day's offense usually does against a good defense and it usually isn't enough to win because our defense cannot be trusted to hold anyone good under 30.

Ask those Bama fans how many wins they have this year over SEC teams with a winning conference record.

They might not be bright enough to figure it out for themselves, but the answer is zero.

Just looked up something that surprised me. OSU scored TDs on 75% of RZ trips this season. Georgia only scored TDs on 68% of theirs.

Here's where it gets dicey - red zone defense. Georgia only allowed TDs 32% of the time. 40% of the time the opponent didn't score at all, easily #1 in that stat.

The Buckeyes are #121 in red zone scoring defense.
