Pat Fitzgerald (HC Northwestern Wildcats, Forever)

Agree to disagree. People who boast about how much more integrity they have are, in my opinion, douches. People with true integrity typically don't brag about or call attention to themselves for that. Nor do they have (or at best tolerate) having their players take a dive to slow the pace of play.
Get to know the man a bit more than that. You'll find he is much more than you give him credit for.

I lost respect for Fitzgerald for the way he handled the situation and I expect a lot of guys wearing purple to be taking knees after plays (aka faking injuries) when the Buckeyes travel to Evanston.

Fitzgerald has done plenty of things to earn respect, but that doesn't mean you put him on a pedestal as untouchable from criticism.

In this instance, his team faked injuries to slow down a fast paced offense and he acted like a douchebag when someone asked him about it.

I'm not saying he's above reproach, but he's not a douche. Message board banter is often over the top and negative...I get that, but he's simply not a bad guy even if he makes a mistake or 20. We all do that.

Fitzgerald is a Division I major college coach, he is not Mother Teresa if the last few years have shown us anything don't make coaches some paragons of virtue. We should expect football coaches to Win games. expecting more you usually end up disappointed.

Absolutely. But there's a gulf of distance between paragon of virtue and douche. Not sure why, but it seems that there's a strong desire to put down most things not associated with the home team. One look at the earlier pages of the Urban Meyer thread reveals the silliness of that. I really wish it weren't that way.

Never heard this excuse (as to why we lost) before...

Equipment failure may have been to blame for Northwestern’s loss

Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald took a shot at bloggers and reporters for their coverage of California, but maybe he should direct some disgust at his own equipment staff. IT appears Northwestern’s defensive players were wearing the wrong wristbands in the first half, as Cal was building a lead against a scrambling Northwestern defense.

Inside Northwestern reports information from an undisclosed source close to the team confirming Wildcats players had to switch out wristbands with plays inside of them during the game. If Northwestern’s defense looked to be in bad coverage, perhaps this would be a reason why.

The Northwestern site on the SB Nation network alluded to a possible breakdown in communication while breaking down the game film against California. Switching out wristbands so players had the right plays to refer to would seem to explain how a miscommunication could happen in the game. Perhaps it is not a coincidence Northwestern managed to make a comeback in the game as well.
