I don't think the 2 PAC had much choice (and not sure if they could dissolve the PAC and keep the assets). For the moment they saved themselves and turned the tables on the MWC. I do agree with the tone of that article about the whole realignment mess and it certainly seems like shoes are going to keep dropping for the foreseeable future.This guy gets it. The four aren't being promoted to P5 status; the PAC name is being brought down to G6 status. They'll still all be mid-major poverty programs.

Washington State's last share of a Pac-12 title came in 2002, and Oregon State's last share came in 2000. But both are set to be top-tier members of the revamped conference, which will still need to make additions. Among the schools to watch could be some combination of current American Athletic Conference schools UTSA, Rice, North Texas and Memphis, according to John Talty and Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.
