Pac-Two (official thread, formerly PAC-12)

This guy gets it. The four aren't being promoted to P5 status; the PAC name is being brought down to G6 status. They'll still all be mid-major poverty programs.

I don't think the 2 PAC had much choice (and not sure if they could dissolve the PAC and keep the assets). For the moment they saved themselves and turned the tables on the MWC. I do agree with the tone of that article about the whole realignment mess and it certainly seems like shoes are going to keep dropping for the foreseeable future.

And at what point is the non-profit status of universities challenged due to semi-pro athletics?

Washington State's last share of a Pac-12 title came in 2002, and Oregon State's last share came in 2000. But both are set to be top-tier members of the revamped conference, which will still need to make additions. Among the schools to watch could be some combination of current American Athletic Conference schools UTSA, Rice, North Texas and Memphis, according to John Talty and Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.

Utah St. accepts invite to become 7th member of rebuilding Pac-12

Utah State has accepted an invitation to join the Pac-12 and become the newly formatted conference's seventh member, sources told ESPN on Monday night.

The move comes amid a dizzying day of realignment that saw the Pac-12's interest in a handful of AAC schools get rebuffed, the Mountain West expected to retain a commitment from key member Air Force and UNLV's decision become uncertain after its commitment to the MWC earlier in the day was not formalized.

Utah State's reported acceptance would make it the fifth school from the Mountain West to join Oregon State and Washington State in the rebuilding Pac-12. Utah State would join Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Colorado State, who have announced they are going to the league.

The departure from the Mountain West leaves that league with seven schools, which means it will need to make one addition to remain an official conference.

Gonzaga to join Pac-12: Conference still needs one more football-playing member with Zags leaving WCC

The Zags will bring a rich tradition in basketball to the new-look Pac-12

Gonzaga announced Tuesday it is leaving the WCC and will become a member of the new-look Pac-12 starting in 2026. The Zags, who have been one of the most successful men's basketball programs in recent years, do not have a football program, but will give the Pac-12 eight members in basketball.

The Pac-12 sits at seven members in football with Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State announcing their exit from the Mountain West to join the Pac-12 last month. The conference needs one more school to join in football to reach the eight-member minimum to qualify as an official FBS conference.

"We are delighted to welcome Gonzaga into the Pac-12 as they embark with us on this incredible path ahead," Pac-12 commissioner Teresa Gould said in a statement.
