with p90x, how much focus is placed on muscle-building? call me vain, but i place muscle hypertrophy and strength over fitness... though i am already fit and healthy.

For those without good musculature, it builds muscles. For those already fit, it's a matter of tonig IMO. There is some cardio, but the bulk of it is muscle exercise. The original is put out by beach body, and the goal is to look good on the beach if that helps.

So my girlfriend and I have decided to start doing this workout to give it a try. I don't know how well to a T I will follow the diet plan but i'll at least keep it in mind when making my meals. One thing, is i'm not going out and buying all of their recovery shakes and all that stuff because quite frankly I don't have the money to spend on all of that (not that I don't, but not to spend on that). What kind of meals should I be eating within 2-3 hours before a workout and within an hour after a workout? My girlfriend is generally in school or at work until later in the evening and our schedules are just everywhere right now so we will likely be working out at 9-10pm most nights.

Lean meats, raw vegetables, complex/carbs. Lose processed foods, sugars and trans fats.

Day 1 in the books. My arms are definitely feeling it but it's not as bad as I thought. The only part that's really sore is like my tri's and elbow area. My chest really isn't bad at all. I struggled with a couple things the 2nd time around (diamond push ups primarily) but all in all it was a workout that I feel I can keep up with before too long. It's a long workout though when you add in the ab ripper and I was pretty freakin beat when doing abs the last 20 mins.

What can I look forward to with plyometrics? Will I be able to walk tomorrow?

edit: Also, any good recommendations for a set of good push up bars that aren't overpriced? Is a $20 set going to offer the same stability and range of motion that a $40-$50 set will? I have horrible wrists (displaced a bone in the left wrist playing baseball and tore some ligaments in the right playing football in high school and they just haven't been good since). Some of the push ups (and even reverse grip pull ups) did a number on them last night.

Wrist wrap gloves might be a solid investment. Watch the elbows.. don't "snap" into place with your exercises. Fluid motion, much better on your joints. Might I also suggest fish oil ASAP.

You'll be able to walk, it just won't be fun. Lots of body weight squats, lunges, wall sits, and jumps.

I'm working through the program right now as well... first time through plyo, I got to about 25 minutes and my legs were just burning. Then they announced we were halfway through. Overall though, it's probably my favorite workout. For playing sports, this is where you can see the tangible benefits.

I personally thought plyo was one of the easier workouts.
At least for me.

Edit. Krill oil is an option as well.

What is the purpose of fish oil?

Omega-3 fatty acids, an essential polyunsaturate, which maintains healthy cells.

The common argument in their favor as a supplement is that you're not getting them from the natural food supply any longer because all the fish are farmed, the cattle are fed corn instead of grass, and a vast majority of people don't eat wild game.

What we eat, from a nutritional perspective, doesn't even remotely resemble what our grandparents or great grandparents ate 100 years ago.

I could hardly walk for a few days the first time I did plyo and I only made it halfway through. If you aren't in shape take it easy the first time or two and work your way up. If you are bad shape try cardio rather than plyo the first week.

Good luck.

Legs are definitely my weak area. I'm not in shape by my standards but I'm not terrible either. I'm 6" 190lbs or so. We did it last night and my girlfriend made it halfway through and I went for another 10mins or so and she "convinced" me to take a shower and go to bed.

I can definitely feel it in the legs today but not as bad as my arms after doing chest/back the other day.

I am definitely sore all over but not to where it's unbearable. Just not sure how well I will be able to do arms and shoulders tonight when it still hurts to lift my arms over my head hah.
