Just an update ... Day 1 done and man what a haul this is gonna be... I am not in terrible shape... I play sports a decent amount of the time...

But...

I did chest and back in the morning before work and ab ripper right after I got home. Pushed way too hard on the front half of exercises and took a puke break(first time I have ever puked just doing pull ups and push ups)... Manned up... and got back at it... Finished it did more than I thought I would do and feel pretty good.

Ab Ripper was challenging but It was nice that they kept going to new exercises and not really allowing me to think about how I didn't do the reps I wanted to do... I know I'll get there on both things so I am enjoying feel like I got the crap beat out of me.

Like 2 a days in football, it will only get easier the longer I hold on. And I can already feel my body changing. I actually can't wait for tomorrow even though I hear that it blasts you even worse.

about how many pull ups and push ups are you doing during this workout?

The itinerary for Chest & Back is:

Standard Push-Up
Wide Front Pull-Up
Military Push-Up
Reverse Grip Chin-Up
Wide Fly Push-Up
Closed Grip Overhand Pull-Up
Decline Push-Up
Heavy Pants
Diamond Push-Up
Lawnmower
Dive-Bomber Push-Up
Back Fly

Then Repeat, but switch 2 & 1, 4 & 3, etc ...

So, there's 12 push-up exercises, 6 pull-up exercises, and 6 exercises with dumb bells. The push-ups you're supposed to do "to failure," so most guys will probably wind up knocking out 100-150 over the span of 40 minutes even though they're really out of shape, and they wind up regretting it the next morning. I know I did. It was two days before I could lift my arms above my head or fully extend my shoulders again.

I'd be really shocked if anybody can do more than 10-20 pull-ups on Day 1, considering the average Joe who buys this off an informercial cannot do one.

For me it was more trying to hard to keep up with the video and not pacing myself... I did alot better doing that with Plyo today and made it all the way thru with only 2 minor pause breaks... Granted I didn't do every rep they did but did what I could and stopped until the next exercise or if I got a second wind would go back at it... Was happy to just get thru it with the way people talk about it.

It's weird - Plyo might actually be my favorite. I don't know why, but it just works well for me. Yoga on the other hand, I abhor. I don't even try to do it anymore. My wife does the yoga DVD, and I just spend about 50 minutes going over various moves from other workouts that I struggle with - I've been able to improve on basic areas like kicks and squats where I've lacked the flexibility to get much height or depth. I feel like I've been able to improve in my hips and in my lower left quad (above the knee that was operated on a couple years ago). I feel like I might be able to give Yoga another go once I drop a couple inches from my waist and get a little closer to catching up on flexibility. Once I get where I need to be with the stuff I'm working on currently, I need to work on increasing flexibility in my shoulders.

Yoga is the hardest by far, especially the first 50 minutes. I get through it but I have to fall out of the positions quite a bit. The 2nd time was easier than the first. Probably because my gut is smaller. That helps quite a bit.

Yeah things are going petty well. I got thru the first five days. Getting ready for kenpo x. Yoga was unimaginably hard. But I felt great the next day. My body is learning to recover faster so I am looking forward to next week. I am seeing results already. I stabilized my weight at just under 200. Previously was at around 210. Wife walked in after I finished ab ripper x, the third run, and I was drinking my recovery drink with my shirt off from sweat and she was amazed at how fast I was changing. This is the real deal if you eat right. And after the first few days it has been very bearable. I am pushing for reps from here out.

Oh, and the funniest part for me is that I used to be able to push my gut out to look pregnant.... I can't now, and that was one of my favorite things to do.... My kids loved it. Too bad...that's over with now.

Ab Ripper X has been a real struggle for me because I have been so far out of shape. I've had to do crunches where I couldn't do the sit-ups, leg climbs, etc.

Well, I managed my first two sit-ups in a long, long time tonight.

Not going to do the P90X routine, but I am trying to straighten out my diet (again). My problem is that I don't like a lot of foods. But, I do like some.. I picked up some oats, ham, turkey, whole grain bread, corn, rice, broccoli, chicken breast. My main issue is fruits. I don't like most of them. So I picked up some V8 Fusion, and it's not bad. Loaded up on water, too.

Any suggestions as far as effective at-home workouts that don't require much space? I'm pretty out of shape and I'm tired of it. I don't have time to do P90X and I'm honestly not sure I could stick with it if I did have time. But I want to do something.

It's perfectly fine to stay away from the fruits.

It's on the right side of the page. Subscribe via email, and then it'll be sent to you. It's five movements (with multiple levels): Push-Up, Pull-Up/Chin-Up, Squat, Handstand, and Plank. There are beginner, intermediate and advanced levels on all of them. The amount of time spent is up to you.

Mark also states clearly that 80% of your "fitness" is based on diet. So you might want to check out the Forums for an understanding on the Primal Diet as well. If you like meat and vegetables (amongst others); then you'll dig it.

Although the Fusion tastes better than regular V8, so I'll probably stick with it. Haha

Thanks a lot. I'll give it a good read when I get back from work.

Yep,the fruits aren't a big deal at all. Fibrous veggies are what you need imo. My dieting strategy has changed over time and age. Years ago,I would ingest simple sugars PWO with whey/creatine. Nowadays,I use complex carbs all the time, and slowly strip them out and replace them with fibrous veggies(if i'm dieting down a lot). Carbohydrate manipulation is a huge thing with fat loss imo. Diets uber low in carbs normally work til people go back to carbs, and water/fat comes right back.

When I do decide to drop BF while using all complex carbs,i'll drop the total carb count, but also use a re-feed day every 13-15 days. It aids in preserving muscle while dieting down.

Most people who just start to workout can see significant changes without a diet alteration. I think over analyzing things is one of the biggest mistakes people make (who just started).

Changing your lifestyle completely is a hard thing to do,and to stick with. Don't get me wrong it's good to get on the right track with dieting/exercise,but most people vastly underestimate their present condition. When the realization of how much work this is going to be sets in,one negative can lead to the next and a domino effect rolls on.

I have been doing Ab Ripper X for about a year now, 3 times a week. Needless to say, I can literally recite the entire 18 minutes word for word when the DVD is on.

Lol... every time I get to the end of my 1/3/5 day routine I can already hear Horton say..."I hate it...BUT I LOVE IT". Then I totally understand.... every time.
