Oversigning (capacity 25, everyone welcome! maybe)

FSU had all world signing classes according to the experts, even as they continued to circle the toilet bowl in a Jeff Bowden spiral of death. I think rankings that include non-qualifiers and soon to be early drop outs and kicked offs mean less to me than they do to you. But that is because our lesser rival made such a stink about how great their rankings were as they slid south and I watched it slowly unfold.

Your view is likely the more widely held one.

It doesn't matter what you or I think about the rankings, but they can influence high school kids that want to go to a place that will be competitive and the rankings from the last couple of years can affect their decisions.

So having higher class rankings due to receiving more LOIs than are actually going to turn into scholarships can improve future recruiting.

Just another reason to make the 25/85 limits apply to LOI, rather than eventual scholarships. :wink2:

...mmmmmyeah I guess. But more than relationships with coaches, being fans of particular/local programs or ability to start early? I doubt they say, "Well, as an Ohio guy I was going to the Bucks, but I see where Oregon had mad high Scout Rankings last year!!!" Never know tho :p

Or having bitchin' black Uniforms....that too! :banger:

I note your well presented reasons and stick with my unethical construct Bill. For the love of God don't tag Josh as you leave the Ring big guy.

The coaches, the traditions, the facilities, proximity to home, the depth chart, the academics, the weather, the recent wins and losses, and the uniforms - none of that shit matters.

Kids make their decisions based solely on ESPN's recruiting rankings for the last 3 years. And ESPN and oversigning are both tools of the devil.

So there.

Gator, it certainly is not the only factor, but many recruits are very aware of their own rankings, where other top prospects are headed, where their potential classes are rated. You hear them talk about it a lot in interviews, especially during ESPN HS games, all star games or practice interviews. It was definitely prominent in that epic 2010 class that UF signed.

Does a team like UF need oversigning to rank well? No, but with more reasonable totals teams like SCar, Ole Miss, Tenn, etc would typically be ranked quite a bit later.

I totally agree; however, I would add: If the player is in good academic standing with the school and within a year (3 quaters/2 semesters) of graduating after his 4 years of football eligibility is up, the school has to give him another year of scholarship (i.e. up to 3 quarters/2 semesters or until he graduates); however, this extra year does not count against the 92 schollies.

Furthermore, if the player takes a medical redshirt year and plays as a 5th year Senior, the school shouldn't be limited in the number of incoming freshman they sign. If I have 2, 5th year seniors playing, I shouldn't have to decrease my number of signees by 2 that year.

I hear you, but posit that it could just as easily work the other way: a kid sees that you just signed two four star (but unknown to him) non-qualifiers at his position and decides to go elsewhere. Many times getting an LOI from one kid will diminish the chance of getting another kid looking to start at the same spot.

Like I say, I think it more important to focus on the improperly high red shirt numbers, launching kids already enrolled with little or no notice, and telling kids at the last minute that they are "out" because you oversigned and accepted an LOI from someone better. If we take care of that, the class rankings as an influence issue will have as much importance as a cool helmet design.

I even bought it in Blu-Ray so I could see the dust particles.

My kids really like it, and I enjoyed the storyline. May make me less of a man, but I've been emasculated for some time. I just cover it up with facial scruff to feel better about myself.

Great movie. The man card is only due if you weep uncontrollably.

There are only two occasions whereupon a man is allowed to cry without shaming hisownself.

1. At the death of a particularly good dog.

B: While viewing the Grand Canyon.

Even so, blubbering and snotting is not allowable. Only stoic, silent tears are acceptable.
