IMO, this offer doesn’t necessarily indicate the staff feels they will miss out on targets higher on their board. It’s more an indication of how bare the cupboards are at OT.

I’ve read a few different reports on where the staff sees Montgomery but he certainly CAN play outside at tackle if needed. That may be the plan for him with the flexibility to move him inside if they have that luxury.

This guy though looks like a true OT and the depth chart is pretty darn thin. If this guy hops on and we still land the big Fin then great, it’s just more depth but if we don’t land him then landing Walker is even more critical.

*and I’ll add that regardless of this class, we will be in play for a portal OT next year I can almost guarantee it.

Was listening to Zach Smith’s podcast today and he was mentioning that he thinks this a truly a case of a recruit being underrated. Being from Connecticut doesn’t help. He said that getting offers from Iowa and TAMU suggest he is very good. Iowa since they develop OL so well and TAMU since their OL coach is Steve Adazzio, who he credits as being one of the best OL coaches in the nation. Take it for what it’s worth
