OT Mike Adams (Official Thread)

His talent was never maximized here..blame Mike himself or coaching.all I know is the consensus among scouts is he has a large upside.
I think there is blame to go around to numerous places/people. Mike obviously had some personal issues, but a big issue, in my IMO, was the lack of depth. When there is no fear of losing your spot, there is less motivation to work as hard as you possibly can, it's human nature.

Feeling secure in your spot is one thing I think that is coming to an end in regards to O-Line depth. We should have better O-Line play because of it

Senior Bowl Dish: Who padded their draft status during practices?
PUBLISHED Thursday, Jan 26, 2012
Russ Lande Sporting News

1. Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State, 6-7, 323, 5.10 40 time; projected late first-round, early second-round pick. Adams came to Mobile viewed as a likely third-round prospect, but after a strong week, we are confident that he will be a second-round pick and could even work his way into the bottom of the first round. He displayed good feet sliding out to protect the corner in pass protection and did an excellent job of using his long arms to get a fit on pass rushers. He showed good strength throughout the week and once he locked onto a man, he was able to tie him up and keep him out of the play. Numerous NFL scouts told SN that Adams is a better offensive tackle prospect than Riley Reiff.

And what NFL teams are good fits for each? Wes Bunting

2. OT Mike Adams: Ohio State (6-7, 320)
Looks the part of an NFL left tackle. He showcases good length, moves his feet well through contact and exhibits “plus’ range toward the edge for his size. At times gets himself into trouble “catching” defenders at the point, but has the skill set to mature into a good starting NFL left tackle.

NFL Fits…
Chiefs
Bills
Lions

Senior Bowl Matchups To Watch
By Fran Duffy

South DE Quinton Coples (North Carolina) vs. North OT Mike Adams (Ohio State):
Entering this week, many would point to these two players as the best prospects on each of their respective teams, so anointing this as the top match-up is seemingly a no-brainer. Coples was a man among boys all week (as has been the case for much of his past two seasons at UNC), and was easily the most impressive physical specimen on the South squad. The former Tarheel routinely used his superior strength to overpower offensive linemen, and was as close to unblockable as you could get on the last two days of practice. Adams was the star of the show on Monday, including the weigh-in where he topped out at 6-7, 323. One shouldn?t merely marvel at Adams? size, however, as he also displayed good quickness and balance for such a big man. He got looks at both left tackle and right tackle through the week, but will surely line up on the left side on Saturday. Watching these two behemoths exchange blows will certainly be something scouts will be looking forward to in this contest, and will go a long way towards their reputation leading up to the Combine. Will Coples step his game up another notch against his biggest test yet in Adams? Or will Adams look to cement himself as a safe Top-10 selection with a dominant performance against Coples?

Mike Adams/T/Ohio State: During the week the consensus of scouts was the South squad had the best defensive ends of either roster. Adams was able to shut them down all game. On several occasions he stopped pass-rushing terrors Courtney Upshaw and Melvin Ingram dead in their tracks. Upshaw eventually sacked the passer, though the fault was not placed on Adams shoulders. His ability to stop quick, explosive pass-rushers in the game will give scouts even more to think about when they decide where in Round 1 one the talented tackle should be selected.

Mike Adams among players vying to improve draft stock at NFL Scouting Combine
Staff report Sporting News

Teams looking to bolster their strength at tackle will be watching closely as Ohio State's Mike Adams executes tests at the NFL Scouting Combine. The annual talent display ahead of the NFL Draft begins Feb. 22 in Indianapolis, running six days.

Adams is among tackles vying for first-round selection. According to Sporting News draft expert Russ Lande in his latest mock draft, Adams could go 13th overall to the Arizona Cardinals.

Why? They have struggled to protect the quarterback in recent seasons, and Adams would give them a strong, physical tackle who could play on the right or left side.

Adams heads to the Combine off a solid showing at the Senior Bowl. He left Mobile figuring to be no worse than an early second-round selection. At 6-7, 323 pounds, Adams brings experience of having played in the Big Ten and some impressive measurables, including a 5.10-second time in the 40-yard dash.

Adams came to the Senior Bowl viewed as a likely third-round prospect, but delivered a strong week in workouts, Lande reported.

He showed good foot movement in sliding out to the corner in pass protection and did an excellent job of using his long arms to get a pop on pass rushers. Lande also said Adams showed good strength throughout the week. Once he locked onto a man, Adams was able to tie him up and keep him out of the play.

Numerous NFL scouts told SN that Adams is a better offensive tackle prospect than Riley Reiff, an Iowa junior who often is projected as the first player at his position to be selected.

mike adams ot from ohio state is he at the same level as last yearsot's or better the lions need to at least look at him if he is as a priorty need jeff bakus isn't getting younger.

Mel Kiper
He would fall in probably in the category of the second tier. The top tier is Matt Kalil and Reiff. The second tier is Martin, Adams, and Cordy Glenn if you project him to RT. Adams' grade will be similar to Nate Solder, Costanzo, Gabe Carimi.

Mel Kiper
I have Adams going to Chicago right now at 19.

Detroit Lions could draft Ohio State left tackle Mike Adams, according to NFL Network's Mike Mayock
Published: Thursday, February 16, 2012
By Anwar S. Richardson | [email protected]

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions have three players on its offensive line who are at least 30-years old, which is why NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock believes that unit could be addressed in this year's draft.

Lions left tackle Jeff Backus is 34 (unrestricted free agent) and recovering from bicep surgery, center Dominic Raiola is 33, while guard Stephen Peterman is 30.

Mayock believes Stanford left tackle Jonathan Martin, Ohio State left tackle Mike Adams or Stanford guard David DeCastro should be on Detroit's radar as potential first round picks heading into April's NFL Draft.

"I think (Matt) Kalil (Southern California) and (Riley) Reiff will be gone," Mayock said. "I think Cordy Glenn (Georgia) is a right tackle. I think Martin and Adams are the two logical ones. Obviously, Detroit is (picking) 23rd and Jonathan Martin, to me, is a prototypical left tackle. He's gifted athletically. He needs to get a little bit stronger. A lot of the things I said about Kalil you can say about him. He needs to get a little bit stronger, but can protect the quarterback.

"Mike Adams has had some off-the-field issues. I spoke with his offensive line coach the other day. He really helped himself at the Senior Bowl. I think he will continue to help himself at the combine. Most people had second round grades on him, but he's moving up. I think he's a real logical guy for you to keep your eye on as we get closer to that 23rd pick this year."

NFL Draft: Mike Adams prepared for NFL, past off-field issues
By Mike Jones

When Ohio State tackle Mike Adams recalls the best opponents he faced during his college career, Washington Redskins outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan gets a nod.

The 6-foot-7, 323-pound Adams also names former Wisconsin standout J.J. Watt (now of the Texans) and former Iowa end Adrian Clayborn (now of the Buccaneers).

?My junior year I played against Ryan Kerrigan, J.J. Watt and Adrian Clayborn,? says Adams, one of the top tackle prospects at the NFL Combine, and a projected first-round pick in April?s draft. ?I would say those three guys, they all were great players, and all of them definitely made a name for themselves. So I would definitely say those three guys.?

Adams says that playing against that trio as a junior helped him prepare for the NFL as a senior. And after seeing all three excel as rookies last season, he has confidence that he too can succeed as a professional.

?Just the ability to go out and perform against high-caliber competition, it?s something I?m definitely glad I was able to do, and it?s something for the scouts to look at on film,? Adams says. ?As an offensive lineman, especially in the NFL, pass protection is, I guess what they say, is where you make your money. It?s something that I pride myself on doing well and something that I?ll keep striving to get better at.?

Adams spent his college career at left tackle, but he could switch to right tackle in the NFL. Adams said that both the Redskins and the Cleveland Browns spoke with him Wednesday about his willingness and ability to make the move.

?Whatever a team wants,? Adams said. ?I?m just blessed to be in this position. No matter where I go [in the draft], I feel blessed.?

Browns eye offensive tackle Mike Adams
Adams was among the linemen who met the press on the first day of the NFL
Pat McManamon
February 23, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The first official ?affect the Browns? Scouting Combine tidbit was dropped at about 1350 hours in Indiana on Thursday.

That?s when Ohio State tackle Mike Adams said that the Cleveland Browns were one of two teams that had talked to him about playing right tackle in the pros, the other being the Washington Redskins.

Of those two teams, only one has two first-round picks -- and that?s the Browns, who are sitting at the 22nd spot with their second first-round choice. Which is right in the area where folks project Adams to be selected. Adams played left tackle for the Buckeyes, but he?d switch sides without hesitation if Cleveland -- or any team -- asked him to move.

?I?m open to do whatever a team needs me to do,? Adams said.

Adams, a potential Ravens target, says that he's learned from off-the-field mistakes
Former Ohio State tackle expected to meet with Ravens officials this week
By Jeff Zrebiec
February 23, 2012

Most people expect the Ravens to target a guard or center in the first round of April?s Draft, but that could change if Ohio State Mike Adams is still on the board.

Considered by most draft pundits as the fourth best tackle in the draft, Adams (6-7, 323 pounds) is probably a long shot to fall to the Ravens at pick No. 29. However, questions about his maturity and several off-the-field issues could hurt his draft status.

Adams, who was involved with the tattoo scandal at Ohio State, was suspended for the first five games of 2011 for receiving improper benefits. He also was suspended for first two games of 2009 for violating team rules and was cited in January 2009 for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and running a stop sign. The drug paraphernalia charge was ultimately dropped.

?I had some bumps in the road earlier in my career, but I think that I used those things to build my character rather than to bring it down,? Adams said. ?I think that my character is something that my teammates and coaches at Ohio State would vouch for. Anybody who knows me knows that I?m not a bad guy. I?ve definitely made some mistakes, but I?ve definitely learned from them.?

Notebook: Lions' plans could include ex-Buckeye
Mike Adams, formerly of Ohio State, could be a real possibility for the Lions who own the 23rd pick of the 2012 draft. (Melina Vastola-US PRESSWIRE)
Mike O'Hara

INDIANAPOLIS — Mike Adams won’t feel like an outsider or feel any pangs of mixed loyalty if he winds up with the Detroit Lions through the luck of the NFL Draft in April.

Adams is in the top handful of offensive tackles, and that’s a position that could be on the Lions’ radar screen under some circumstances.

Adams has size. He checked in at 6-foot-7, 323 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

He has a college resume and pedigree. He was a full-time starter his last two seasons at Ohio State. Some of the NFL’s best young tackles have come from Big Ten teams.

NFL combine: Adams, Brewster had divergent paths at Ohio State
By Bill Rabinowitz
The Columbus Dispatch Friday February 24, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS ? If you were to chart the trajectories of their Ohio State careers, Mike Adams? would look like a volatile stock, while Michael Brewster?s would resemble a treasury bond.

Both were highly touted offensive-line recruits when they became Buckeyes. Brewster became a starter at center in the middle of his freshman year and was a dependable cornerstone player his entire career.

Adams was suspended for two games in his sophomore year for violating team rules, rebounded to earn all-Big Ten honors as a junior and then became one of the players involved in the memorabilia scandal for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring.

But the left tackle played well in 2011 when reinstated after an NCAA-imposed five-game suspension, and his value is peaking. The Dublin Coffman graduate is projected to be a late first-round pick in April?s draft. Brewster is expected to be taken in the middle rounds.

?It?s just a blessing to even be in this position,? Adams said yesterday at the NFL combine. ?If my name is called in the first round, I can?t even explain how that would feel.?
