OSU's huge recruiting weekend

If I recall correctly, we did have one very exciting recruiting year under Ayers in the 90's, also. I'm not sure which year it was, but I think I remember that we got Mr. Ohio basketball (Greg Simpson), Mr. Kentucky b-ball (Derek Anderson), and Mr. Indiana (I think it was Killer Macon or Gerald Eakers) all in the same year. Of course, Anderson transferred to UK and the rest ended up off of the team for various legel issues (like shooting out a teammate's tires).

I remember that it was an exciting recruiting class at the time, but I can't imagine it was anymore exciting than these upcoming classes are going to be.

This is some exciting stuff!!!! We love Matta!!!!

Thanks. I knew it was supposed to be a good class, but I couldn't remember all the details.

Still excited about the coming ones, though! :)

Let's hope the '06 class is better than that 93 class. They all ended up kicked of the team by 94 (except Anderson). Anderson blew out his knee and transfered to Kentucky. I witnessed Eaker quit the team because Ayers told him he couldn't play pick-up games at Larkins(injury risk). That entire class epitomized WASTED TALENT.

If Conley was recruiting heavily in the favor of the Bucks this past weekend, I consider this deal as good as done. I know a lot of people worry until signing day, but there's no way Thad let's this kid slip through his fingers. Mom's involvement to boot...I have zero worries. I am PUMPED. Bring on ODEN, bring on Lighty...anyone else on top of that is just bonus.

Are you guys ready for the first OSU #1 rated b-ball recruiting class ever perhaps?

If our bball program could learn to top 10 finish like our football team and if those two combined could win a couple of NC's over the next decade, OSU athletics could peak. I know I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but JT & TM are taking these programs in VERY positive directions. The sky is the limit for both.
Let's not forget Jim Foster's Lady Bucks.... with a very good shot at a NC as well.

I don't know anything about that class that was a bust, but this isn't a group of random recruits that are suspect to being full of themselves. From what I've seen, the most talented among them is obviously Oden and he's the humblest man alive. Cook seemed like a good kid from all of his interviews. And these kids are gonna want to play together, especially since they know their buddy Eric Gordon will probably come on board the year after as well as OJ Mayo and others.

The future of OSU is incredibly bright. I really feel like OSU is fighting the NBA age limit, because Wake clearly seems to have fallen behind in Oden/Conley... and that might even bring in another top recruit like Thaddeus Young (#1 SF 06). There is too much top talent really interested in OSU over the next few years for things not to continue to improve, regardless of whether or not all of these guys commit.

Well, I have been waiting for the rest of the board to get excited about the basketball program and I think we have reached that point.

Thad Matta is making his mark not only on our program, but also nationally. From the moment he accepted the job, he has provided intensity, motivation and the desire to bring the OSU program back to national prominence.

Matta and his staff have taken the program to the verge of the top 25 next year, he came in during an ongoing NCAA investigation and took a team with serious weaknesses and earned a 20 win season. Including a win over an undefeated, #1 ranked Illinois team that went to the NCAA championship game. With that one game, he served notice that OSU will be a major player in the Big Ten and the national scene.

Matta is a winner and he is now turning heads in his first full recruiting season and he has some of the top prospects looking our way. This is because of his intensity, personality and commitment to bring OSU to the top of college basketball. The recent rumblings from the Real Deal event is proof that Matta WILL be successful at OSU.

I will be posting a basketball recruiting chart in the near future to try to consolidate the prospects the staff is looking at.

i wouldnt get too excited. apparently there is some post from wake's scout.com insiders board that says something along the lines of cook, conley and oden still being a package deal to wake, despite cook's verbal.

apparently their OCD has caused the thought process to be that cook committing to osu and conley and oden's high interest in osu (elevating them to even with wake) is nothing but an elaborate ruse to spite osu for some unforseen reason. what a bunch of jokers. that board has to be the basketball equivalent of bucknuts fb recruiting.

The poster child of the scandal was star receiver Reggie Germany, who recorded a 0.00 grade-point average
Who are they kidding???? Reggie Germany was many things, but he was never anything even close to being a star!
