OSU vs. Miami or USC vs. Texas? What say you?

NYOSU

Rookie
which is the greatest NC game? I have to go with OSU vs. Miami...not because I am a homer, but for the the simple reason that we were the bigger underdog and NO ONE in the media thought that game was going to be close!

don't forget at that time Miami was the Sh*t and they were a better balanced team than USC... and nobody really challenged them that year... no ND or fresno st. close calls.

10/12/02 vs Florida St. Miami wins 28-27
11/21/02 vs Pittsburgh Miami wins 28-21 - a 1TD game

Miami not challenged that year?

There were also games within games where Miami got of to slow starts and needed to buck it up and get back on track. (Much in the fashion that USC has had a number of 2nd half comebacks this year - and last).

As for the best NC game last night's came close to equalling the overall excitement I felt when the Buckeyes took down Dorsey and Miami.

This is the question that I have been waiting to discuss.
Texas/USC is better, maybe, because the big plays were
bigger. And nobody on Miami or Ohio State had a player
who loomed over the playground like Vince Young.

Ultimately Buckeye fans cannot answer this one objectively,
so maybe I am striving extra hard to credit this Rose Bowl.
But I gotta say it was the best game in the spotlight that
I can recall. And besides, I turned off the 2003 Fiesta
Bowl before I saw the Terry Porter flag. Heard the news
the next morning......

Gee, wonder which one will win with this crowd?

The 1987 and 2002 Fiesta Bowls are still the two most wonderful David and Goliath title games I've ever seen. Last night was a great game, no doubt, one for the ages, but I'd take either of those two over last night.

It's got to still be tOSU over Miami. There was the same media horseshit about dominance and speed/talent, etc., but this one was perceived as a closer match than ours. No one but Bucks thought we had a prayer against Miami. This was a great game. Ours was one for the ages.

In an attempt to try and be objective, and I said this last night to a friend of mine, I gotta take Texas-USC. It had just about everything. Dramatic build up with all the hype surrounding USC. Exciting plays. Herculean performances. Terrific comeback. And, of course, no controversy. I was actually on the edge of my seat and cheered very loudly when Vince Young scored. I don't do that for games my team isn't playing in. And is it wrong that I wanted USC to make a game-tying field goal at the end to send it into overtime?

For shear joy, obviously I choose Miami-tOSU.

The media members usually overreact to identify something as the greatest ever. I think that Fowler, Corso, and Herbstreit were fairly cautious about avoiding hyperbole last night.

I agree with Corso's assessment that VY's performance is the greatest ever by a college football player in a championship game.

The game was a classic, and probably belongs in the top-10 college football games of all time, based on these criteria: meaningfulness of the game, quality of play, overall excitement, and dramatic finish.

But, after a few years pass, I believe the 2003 Fiesta Bowl will be generally considered to be a 'greater' football game.

technical glitch that didnt allow the vince young pitch to be replayed, if his knee wasnt down, was it forward? ill go with yes on both. controversy is a part of sports

I'm gonna go "old school"...1969 Rose Bowl...Bucks gave up an 80 yard td to O J then held him in check the rest of the game...:osu:

wow forgot about that gargantuan '68 team! good call... I was a bit upset when espn didn't even aknowledge the 68-69 squad as one college football's best when they were going thru the "dream match-ups" which turned into a "this USC team would have beat all the great teams of yesteryear"

they used the NC texas team from 69 to represent that era, up until last night considered the best texas team ever.

as for the question, there is absolutely zero way i could be fair. I am still on cloud 9 from watching what I consider to be the greatest college football game ever played.
