I would like to see lots of pressure on Navarre. Rattling him is the key as it throws him off of his game. Getting past their offensive line is going to be tough, but with the line we have and the right blitz packages we should be able to move him out of his comfort zone. He cannot be given time in the pocket to throw.

On the offensive side I would like to see us run outside some. It may have been Oregon that had so much success against michigan running outside. Heck, how about some shovel passes too? If it works for the Browns, maybe it can work for the Bucks.

Special Teams - I agree with the post that we need to get better on kick coverage. Breaston is no one to fool around with. Giving them no chance of return this week is going to be more important than pinning them inside the 10 on kickoffs.

1961,

If they are next to OSU's section they are burried in the endzone... you will be lucky to get $500 for the pair... those seats are not very good, and ticket brokers have the same area's for much less... good luck getting that much for those tickets... Be careful if you live in scUM land, because if you post that price on an auction site living in that state you can get in trouble for doing that...just an FYI...

We will definitely need to hit Navarre and get his uniform dirty. The only time MSU put pressure on him, he caughed up the ball.
I look for our defense to mount pressure as the game goes on. We played a lot more man to man in the Purdue game than we have all year, so that may be an omen for this game.

Offensively, I won't be surprised to see SM get some time in this game. I thought he would have seen some action in the Purdue game as well to shake it up and little and get that last home game action. Branden Joe and Ross both ran the ball well against Purdue and I think you'll see some more carries out of Joe Saturday.

It seems like the offense adds a few new wrinkles each and every week. This Saturday I think we will see the whole playbook exposed...

If we can shut down Michigan's running game, we have a very good chance to win this game no what the offense does.

I expect we will see some new wrinkles from the offense this week. We may see Troy Smith in on offense. So far this season he has ran every time he has taken the snap- could there be a sprint out with option to pass play. Maybe a reverse to Troy throwiing it back to Craig. Maybe some more of Gamble lining up in the backfield.

I also expect to see a reverse on the opening kickoff or start of second half. I believe we've shown the fake reverse once this year on a kickoff return.

Will Allen has been quiet the last couple of weeks. It's time for another Allen special this week.

It's only Monday, I can't take this anymore.

The players already have a little billboard material, and it does not come from their team. Quite simply, TSUN supplied us with 1000 fewer tickets than they have in previous years, 4,000 instead of 5,000. I guess they'd rather have another 1k fans sitting on their hands than 1k loud roudy fans rooting for the opposition.

Is it Saturday yet?

Just some rambling thoughts during the Big week....

I love how all the writers get pissed about USC dropping a couple of spots in the NY Times poll after a win. If my memory is correct, I think there were 3 weeks where we won and another team passed over us. Of course the computers have got to be wrong, not the writers.

Poster: The offense sucks.
Poster: Tressel has only lost one game over the last two years.
Poster: I am not talking about the team, I am talking about the offense.
Poster: Tressel has only lost one game over the last two years.
Poster: You can't use that as an argument. I am talking about the offense.
Poster: Tressel has only lost one game over the last two years.
There, that should take care of about 20 threads.

I will say, that people should be allowed to complain about the offense, but should also come to terms with the fact that Tressel considers it the least important facet of the over all game. Hence, using his record as a rebuttle is perfectly acceptable. Special teams, defense.....than offense. He seems to think that is the way to win games. Can't argue with the last two years...so far.

I was more worried about Purdue than scUM. Of course, now I am worried about scUM. They won't be able to run on us. But what happens if this is the one week that Navarre plays above average. Can we shut down their 3 wideouts?

We need more people to post over here consistently.

I think our offense has improved the last 4 weeks. I think no turnovers against Purdue was huge. I know we moved the ball, we just had breakdowns. Is it OK to credit Purdue for that?

Just was listening to the Buckeye round table and the mentioned all the problems on offense. Somebody said "look, there over there at Woody Hayes trying to figure out how to average 450 yds per game." Karsartos agreed and then said "of course, we did average 450 yds per game but ended up 9-3 each year. Maybe they are on to something."

I love Herbie, and respect his professionalism, but does he have to sound so depressed that USC got knocked out of the number two spot? Is it crazy to think that someone, somewhere (maybe Herbie?) can stand up and say "You know, I think USC is deserving, but lets give the Bucks some credit..."

I don't think they can run on us. Can we run on them?

Is it Saturday yet?

"Can we shut down their 3 wideouts?"

We kept Purdue pretty much in check the entire game...they got their yardage but only one TD. So, I think we have the ability to limit the Michigan passing game.

I can absolutely, flat-out, bet-the-house guanrantee you that if we hold Michigan to 13 points like we did Purdue, we will win. Period.

This may be naive or simple, but right now the offense is the last thing on my mind. If the D wants it bad enough, we'll have an excellent chance of winning. And our D wants it bad enough.

I feel like I did before the Fiesta... On paper, yeah, we should lose. And yet here I am, completely confident and secure in our chances.

I bet you it's a single digit margin either way, and fewer than 35 total points are scored.

Daddy's Insight

Wow!! What a game this is unfolding into. This is all you can ask for going into the Michigan game, Big Ten title on the line and playing for the rights to get a shot at Oklahoma in the title game (A matchup that we stack up well in). This will be an epic chess match coming down to our d vs. their o.

I love the way our defense stacks up against their offense. When we shut down the running game Michigan will be forced to air it out, that is where this game will get very interesting. I feel much better about facing Michigan's passing game than Purdue's or NC State for that matter. Yes, they do have good receivers, but they do not specialize in the "dink and dunk", 1...2.. throw offense. John Navarre excels when he has time to pick apart the defense, something in the realm of 4 seconds to get the ball off. If OSU can get pressure on Johnny Choke.......er......I mean Navarre, we will force him into bad throws and will ultimately capitalize on his mistakes.

I've said all along that this is a genuine chess match this week. Button it up on offense, throw out a few new wrinkles but do not do anything out of the realm. If we can get Michigan to play our game, which Tressel is a genius at doing, we play the game on our terms. Field position.....field position........field position. I cannot stress how important it will be this week. I feel very good about our special teams. Sander will need to keep the ball away from Breston on his punts.......put the damn thing out of bounds if you have to.

If we play our game, and have little if any turnovers we will put this game squarely on the shoulders of John Navarre. Make John do something that he has failed to do the last 2 years.....beat us. Sit back and let him come to us, let him make the mistakes.........then pounce on the Wolverines when they make a mistake. That is all that I think it will take this weekend in what shapes up to be a gem in this annual battle. I have not been this excited for some time, I also have a streak of confidence. We stack up very well against the Wolves this Saturday at noon.

This will be a tight game.

OSU- 16
Mich - 10

I think you're right Happy. I thinks it's fine for folks to discuss the Offense, Defense, whatever. There are some problems that could use fixing for sure. BUT, what I can't stand is people RIPPING certain elements or people. Just saying our offense sucks, Krenzel sucks, the O-line sucks, the coaches suck, is unacceptable. I see tons of this going on. My favorite is "We will lose if Krenzel starts". What a pile of crap. Too many people only want to whine about unimpressive wins and offer no insight to our problems. You'd think we were in the midst of back to back 6-6 seasons. The fact is we ARE the 11th team (ever) to post 24 wins over 2 seasons. With a W at Michigan we'll be only the second team (ever) to post 25 wins in 2 season. If we are fortunate enough AND Oklahoma wins out as well, one of our teams will end up with the best win total over 2 seasons EVER. I can see gumbling about our weak offensive numbers, but not to the point of crying "the sky is falling". Sheesh, people need to relax and ENJOY what is going on before it comes to an end. I think we'll continue to be a force in the CF world, but what is happening RIGHT NOW is incredible! It's a great time to be a Buckeye.

2 Season total wins of 24 games or more (BCS conferences, I didn't check the smaller conferences. I also didn't check past 1965 where only 10 or 11 games were played per season):

Alabama:
1991-92....11-1-0 + 13-0-0 = 24-1-0

Florida:
1995-96....12-1-0 + 12-1-0 = 24-2-0

Florida State:
1999-00....12-0-0 + 12-1-0 = 24-1-0

Miami:
2001-03....12-0-0 + 12-1-0 = 24-1-0

Nebraska:
1970-71....11-0-1 + 13-0-0 = 24-0-1
1982-83....12-1-0 + 12-1-0 = 24-2-0
1994-95....13-0-0 + 12-0-0 = 25-0-0*
1996-97....11-2-0 + 13-0-0 = 24-2-0

Notre Dame:
1988-89....12-0-0 + 12-1-0 = 24-1-0

Oklahoma:
2000-01....13-0-0 + 11-2-0 = 24-2-0
2002-03....12-2-0 + 11-0-0 = 23-2-0 (So far ... possibility of 26 wins)

Ohio State:
2002-03....14-0-0 + 10-1-0 = 24-1-0 (So far ... possibility of 26 wins)

Tennessee:
1997-98....11-2-0 + 13-0-0 = 24-2-0
