Saw it mentioned that OSU could still take 1 more after Middleton.

If no one leaves and Holden uses his extra year, we would not have the space.

I do think Holden will use his extra year but someone is bound to leave, so I wouldn't think it untoward if we added a fifth to the class if it was a guy we really wanted.

That said, the 2024 and 2025 classes in Ohio and the Midwest are looking very strong, might want to err towards having extra space for them. But beyond that, Swain is not the most complementary guy to the class when we already have Middleton in it. I can't speak to how the coaches view that, maybe they will keep recruiting Swain hard, but I will be a little surprised if Swain ends up picking us.

That said, I think a guy like Taison Chatman (we are in his Top 5 with Kansas, Virginia, Xavier, and in-state Minny), would be a great option as 5th player in the class as we don't really have anyone like him projected to be on the roster. Probably not going to get him but, yeah, I would say full steam ahead on still trying to get him.

Yeah, with the current transfer portal it seems like somebody transfers from (almost) every team every year....

Besides before the 2021/2022 season who thought that Malaki Branham would be a one and done? Also, it isn't out of the realm of possibilities that a 2022/2023 Freshman could have a great year and be gone after one too.

Cleveland (Ohio) Sierra Canyon combo guard Bronny James is one of the top high school basketball in the country. According to a report from Paul Biancardi, there are multiple suitors for his services.

They include Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, USC and others, per Biancardi. The 6-foot-3, 190 pound prospect will soon take part in three games in Europe with The California Basketball Club.

“Although it’s still relatively early in the recruiting process, there is a strong feeling he will take the college route as opposed to the G League Ignite or other developmental leagues,” Biancardi wrote. “He is being pursued by the likes of UCLA, USC, Michigan, Ohio State and Oregon, among others.”

OSU COMMITS RECRUIT BRONNY JAMES

It’s not unusual for 2023 Ohio State football commits Brandon Inniss and Luke Montgomery to openly recruit other football players to join them in Columbus, both privately via text and openly on social media. On Friday, their peer recruiting efforts extended to Ohio State’s basketball team.

When ESPN’s Paul Biancardi reported Friday that Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Michigan and UCLA were recruiting Bronny James, the son of NBA standout LeBron James, Inniss and Montgomery lent their social media clout to help the Buckeyes recruit the younger James.

According to a report by On3 on Monday, Ohio State is actively recruiting James and trying to schedule a visit. The report indicated Oregon and USC are also actively pursuing James, but Michigan and UCLA are not.

Bronny James slams down vicious dunk against U18 French Select

"Here's the thing with Bronny — Bronny has, as I said, had the biggest crowds all week long," Finkelstein said. "He had a big game — I believe it was Monday — went for 28 points. I wrote about him in my 247Sports recap that day because it was the most aggressive I had seen him. Not only was he looking for his shot, but I think he was getting downhill in transition more than I've seen him before. And that's one of the best parts of his game that we don't talk about quite enough, and maybe that is becoming a more consistent staple of his game. His pace and power in the open floor, combined with his layup-making ability around the rim — he's got terrific touch and body control — those are all top notch and he did that very, very well on Monday."

Regarding the schollie situation.....believe that scholarships are awarded on an annual basis (daughter's was). It could have changed, and I'm not aware, but in the case of transfers, portal jumpers, maybe not so much. If a xfer is 'not panning out', or isn't getting any minutes, am pretty certain that the coach of that team will have 'the talk' with said recruit/transfer. While pulling a scholarship for anything less than academics or illegal malfeasance is harsh, it happens. Having said that, I wonder if tOSU coach would do that to a fairly obvious 'one-and-done' type player. Don't believe Bronny is the type of talent his pop is/was coming out of HS, however. It woud be cool if he DID sign up, then his dad could patrol the sidelines of the Buckeyes for real.....

FWIW, there's 1 crystal ball having him to go to Penn State. His father is Calvin Booth (former NBA player and current President of Basketball Operations for the Denver Nuggets) who played at Penn State. 24/7 says he wasn't even offered by Ohio State. Calvin does have central Ohio ties; he was born in Reynoldsburg and graduated from Groveport Madison.

The B1G guarantees scholarships for 4 years across all sports.

Bronny will only be in college 1 year as his dad wants to play with him in the NBA. A team will take Jr. to get Sr. I think Jr. has NBA potential, but would normally be a 2-3 year college to prove his skill set as he has PG size.
