OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

@OSU_Buckguy a.k.a. Howard Garfinkel, Bob Gibbons, Clark Francis, Van Coleman

I was wondering if you would like to make a educated guess on who you think might end up in Ohio State's class taking into consideration who we have fairly good chances with and team needs.

I am looking at Ahrens, Hayes, Cohill, and one of Muhammed/Weaver. Do not ask me why I picked these guys but I just do not think that we get some of the higher rated guys from out-of-state.

I would also be interested in seeing what other guys that are not Howard Garfinkel's think.

your words are very kind, but i'm much more art garfunkel than howard garfinkel. your estimation as to who composes the class makes as much sense as any list i would come up with. and my list won't be based on much until after or during next month when most of the officials are taking place. but as things stand now, my guesses:

weaver then muhammad
cohill then muhammad/weaver then locke
ahrens then henry
battin then hayes then udeze

this is all tenuous. official visits are absolutely vital and greatly influence a recruit's decision. for example, i think ledee and days stay south, but if we hit it out of the park in september, then everything may change.

my wish list:

weaver
muhammad
henry
ledee
battin

alternatively...

weaver/washington
muhammad/locke
henry
ledee/days
battin/udeze

I am going to be optimistic now that Watson is not a barrier to PT at guard and guess they land Weaver and Muhammad both. I am sure they will want someone else in the class, maybe 2, though it is harder to predict. Cohill would be there if they miss on one of Weaver or Muhammad. Don't feel too confident of their chances for anyone else yet, but I believe they will get two of those three. If they get a SF, I would guess Henry but that is going out on a limb.

This is who I'd really like to have in '18, being somewhat realistic.

Weaver or Nembhard (whoever commits first)
Muhammad
Henry
Days

You basically get every position covered outside a center. They will still have Potter and Wesson for '18 and you go hard after a true center in '19.
While I really would love that class, I think it might be a little wishful thinking. However, it never hurts to make the offer and CH is getting them on campus so may be just may be….

I agree it is a bit optimistic, I dont think it isn't wildly crazy though. Nembhard is probably the longest shot but I think the rest are reasonable.

Even if we got say.. Ahrens and Bauttin instead of Henry and Days I'd still be pleased with

Weaver, Muhammad, Ahrens, Battin

The ship has kind of sailed on who I want (wanted Nance or Hunter to replace Bazley), but I'm guessing we probably get either Weaver or Muhammad. I think Hayes would be a nice project to pick up, and I see us having a very good shot at him. Ahrens and Cohill just don't feel like they are coming, but I think Aaron Henry might like the history of Holtmann in Indy and come out to Columbus....so I'll say Weaver, Hayes and Henry are the three he adds.

All the CB's at 247 say Michigan State for Henry, but I don't see it, purely from a logical view. Maybe they know more than me (:biggrin2:), but with 4 in the fold already, 3 of whom are forwards, I don't think it would be hard to persuade him to go somewhere else. Sounds like Musa could go a long way in bringing Henry into the fold.

Is that a great first whole class? Not really, but it looks reasonable.

more on the above possible recruit
The FIBA U18 European Championships had plenty of players aiming to play college basketball who have already made their way to the states for high school, preparing for the next level.

One such prospect was Lithuania’s Lukas Kisunas, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound 2018 center who made his way to Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy for his junior season and will return for his senior year.

Kisunas averaged 8.9 points and 6.4 rebounds for third place Lithuania in the A Division, finishing out well by scoring 31 points with 19 rebounds in his final two games.

“I think I played pretty well,” Kisunas said. “I had some difficulties at the beginning adapting to the playing style and finding my spot on the team but I think that progressed. I think my last two games were my best two and overall I had a good tournament.”

The rising senior is a big body post who doesn’t mind physical play inside, has soft hands and touch, projecting as a productive low post scorer in college.

“I rebound, block shots, score, run the court on fastbreaks, set screens and find guys that are open if I’m getting double teamed,” Kisunas said.

Kisunas listed Purdue, Pittsburgh, Old Dominion and Dartmouth as schools involved in his recruitment, with taking trips the next step for him.

“I’ll take all of my official visits this year,” he said.
