OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

At this point it is hard to project who will leave early except for Mullens......

Losing Behanan hurt

He was once projected as the top player in his class but that is no longer the case.......not a huge loss as you would think......

Pe'Shon Howard recently still listed us as well. Could they still be contemplating a "PG" with a 7th ship

No.......Teague is the main target at PG.

The staff has moved onto the 11', 12' classes and they have been hosting guys the past couple weekends at the football games...I am sure Junkie' will get threads on them if there aren't already when he gets time...

The staff has moved on and is targeting kids.............between Litlbuck and myself.....I think we have identified the majority of the 11-12 prospects at this point.......

I HOPE Turner and Buford stay through at least their JR seasons, but many folks claim that Turner and his advisors have targeted his being a 2&d from his h.s. days and still have that plan firmly in mind. They say this is common knowledge among those who know him. I hope they are wrong, but I don't personally have any idea what his "camp" is thinking. Many seem to think it is "a given" that this is his last season tho. I feel that way about BJM, but not about Turner or Buford.

I know that '11 Teague is a hi priority, but if they are looking at using a 7th ship in '10 - then maybe they would still consider a point with it. I'm not sure how serious they were with "stringing along" Weatherspoon, but maybe they are considering some other options with a 7th ship as well. I wouldn't rule it 100% out - tho it seems dubious.

I am an advocate or having at least 3 options at PG at all times. I do not want to see an IronMan situation there ( like Butler was in as both a Soph and Sr ) ever again! Teague shouldn't fear Smith or a Howard or even having SR Crater and Offutt probably still here. The "worrying about who is in front" stuff is over, we are going to be too good to hold spots open for recruits in the future. I'm not that keen on kids that don't want any competition at their position anyway. Did Conley fear Butler? Did Buford shrink at the thought of Lighty, Turner and Diebler returning at wing? Two PGs can start and play a lot if they are good enough! Teague is more of a scoring PG anyway so he could easily play alongside Crater, IMO!

They must have coveted Behanan or they wouldn't have offered him so early. Now maybe he's at risk of being tweener size or not developing as much as others over his last 3 years of h.s. but as "hurtin" as we've been for PF depth I think it still stings. One of TM's recruiting achilles has been the 4 spot. He's gone after a LOT of candidates in and out of state and mostly struck out. So losing another, that he offered very early and that is a highly regarded in-state talent, isn't great.

I think Turner will stay through his junior season and I have repeated that many times. However with regards to Buford, I have seen draft projections for underclassmen then have him as high as #5 for this year's draft. I am hoping that we could get at least two years out of him.

It's interesting that some think Buford won't even start and others think he is more likely to go pro after this season than Turner ( who will undoubtedly start and probably play more than Buford ).

I don't know that either will get enough "PR", shots, notice to be a high draft choice. But then those things didn't necessarily stop Cook or KK either. I do think you have to have more when you aren't a BIG, like KK. Does Buford have a big enough rep and enough pro skills to overcome a good but not great frosh year and still be drafted hi? Will he or Turner break out and be sooo good they do garner national acclaim and hi draft status?

I am just pointing out what the NBA scouts think of Buford's talent. Check out some NBA mock drafts for underclassmen. I think he will probably get as many minutes as Cook if not more. You need to change your name from "optimist" to " ":)

From the 2008 Official/Unofficial Visits looks like the following basketball recruits will be visiting for tomorrow's game

2010 PF Adreiane Payne (Dayton Jefferson HS)
2010 SG Jordan Sibert (Cincinnati Princeton HS)
2010 SF Cameron Wright (Cleveland Benedictine HS)
2010 PF Jared Sullinger (Columbus Northland HS)
2010 PF J.D. Weatherspoon (Columbus Northland HS)
2011 C Michael Chandler (Lawrence, Indiana)
2011 PF Ryan Taylor (Lawrence, Indiana)
2011 SF Markus Crider (Dayton Wayne HS)
2011 PG Travis Trice (Dayton Wayne HS)
2012 SG Devonte Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Indiana)
2012 C A.J. Hammonds (Knightstown, Indiana)

It certainly looks like Thad is spending a great deal of time in Indiana for 2011 recruits. Have no idea what the interest is from their side but obviously we must be a little bit interested.

Dispatch

A number of future major-college basketball players will be in action today at Harvest Prep in the All Ohio Slam-N-Jam Hoop Preview.

The nightcap of the nine-scrimmage event, scheduled for 10 p.m., will pit Northland against Cincinnati Princeton, possibly a preview of the 2009 Division I boys state championship game. Northland features juniors Jared Sullinger, who has committed to Ohio State, and J.D. Weatherspoon, who has committed to Xavier. Princeton's top player is junior Jordan Sibert, who will join Sullinger in Ohio State's 2010 recruiting class.

The 9:15 p.m. scrimmage will have Brookhaven opposing Cincinnati Aiken. The state's top-rated 2011 recruit, Chane Behanan, plays for Aiken. Behanan has committed to Cincinnati.

I know it's only 3 games into the season, but I don't see anyone leaving after this year at this point. Not meant to slam anyone, but...

Turner - Right now I think he's the best player on the team, but too many turner-overs. heh.
Lighty - no
Mullens - He's not dominating. I see more inside toughness than KK had, but he's still timid... even against lesser opponents.
Bufford - I haven't seen very much from him yet. Almost an awesome slam today, but still not lighting things up.
Dallas - too short to play inside in the NBA, not enough range to play outside.

No one else can even be considering it. I think we have the same exact team next year, unless BJ or Bufford really start making some big adjustments quickly.

Ironically, or not, there are 0 2009 commits. I think this is by design. I'm not convinced that Mullens, Buford, Turner, Lighty, don't look ahead... but if we do indeed return this team, then we could possibly pull a Florida Gators. What I mean is Bball and FBall in the same year. As much as I don't root for UF, that is the ultimate goal to pull off, and they already did it. I think OSU can do it, but it's going to take our young BAMF's to stick around for it to happen.

The main reason there are no 2009 commits is that any of the guys that were worthy of an offer from Ohio State went somewhere else and there were not many official offers made to that class. They also are baking some for 2010. The only two guys that I could possibly see leaving might be Buford and Mullens just solely based on their potential in you have to remember that we have only seen these days play 3 college games.
