He was about to receive an offer from Indiana, and would have gotten several other high major opportunities if he waited.

Center Evan Anderson's commitment to Wisconsin this spring is seemingly imminent. No big white kids from the midwest can resist the lure of playing in Bo Ryan's system. Anderson is a top 5-10 overall player in the 2010 class and has offers from a few national powers like Kentucky.

Yep Wisky is putting together some solid classes as well, along with Illinois, Minnesota, tOSU, MSU, Indiana...

Hopefully the big ten will puts itself back on the map soon...

CB40, I cannot tell a lie....I'm not the biggest Evan Anderson fan. I don't really understand the hype. I've seen him on a couple occasions and his footwork is very cumbersome. He also seems to lack passion for the game. Last season he averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds per game. But obviously many disagree with me to rank him amongst the top 5-10 players in the nation, and for programs around the country to distribute so many offers. I think small forward Flavien Davis and power forward Kyle Kelm are far superior in state players in the same class. Davis reminds be of the Big Dog and Kelm is a young Jon Leuer. Hopefully the best player in Wisconsin regardless of class, Jeronne Maymon, can turn things around academically and play for a school in the Big Ten. He scored 30+ in each of his 4 games in the King James Classic. I'd hate it if he'd be a wasted midwest/wisconsin prospect because of academics, like 2008 Mr. Basketball DeMarcus Phillips in '08 for Milwaukee Washington (we typically have a ton of talented non-qualifiers from the area). Maymon is a stud!

Minnesota is really on the upswing recruiting wise. Both Sampson and Joseph are talented players. I'll vouch for Bostick (another former Milwaukee area non-qualifier) being from Wisconsin. He's an underrated, athletic wing. 2009 projects to be an excellent year for them in recruiting also. They scored Royce White already of course and Rodney Williams might be on the way if he can get his grades together. I probably shouldn't be feeding the monster. Their fans were unbearable when they stunk. But they should at least somewhat make up for the farce that is the Indiana program right now.

Kentucky just scored a commitment from an 8th grader per Jody Demling.

I mean what's next, getting commitments from fetuses in the womb? Let's check the ultrasound. That's a pretty good sized fetus. I bet he'll be a beast in the post. Kick once if you want to be a Wildcat, son.

Mullens was a very early commit to Ohio State... maybe not eighth-grade but shortly thereafter.

I think tOSU offered and accepted a commitment from BJ Mullens the Summer after his 8th grade year (before he started his Freshman season in High School).

I think now-a-days that recruiting is so competitive that you have to at least start developing relationships (maybe even extend offers)with some of these kids (and their families) earlier and earlier if you want to have a shot at the top talent in the nation.

At the same time, I see what you're saying and I wonder where "the line" should be drawn.

I'm not sure of the answer, but from the way BJ has developed over the last few years, I must admit that I'm glad our coaches "got in on" him early, and happy that he'll be wearing the Scarlet & Grey next season (at least for one year, but that's a different discussion :wink2:)

Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - April rewind: 2009 prospects in the news

CROWD PLEASER

Derrick Favors is playing the recruiting game quite well. Before he traveled to Arkansas for the Real Deal on the Hill, several news media outlets reported on his interest in the Razorbacks.

Last week in Akron, a local sports radio station interviewed Favors and Ohio State-bound teammate Trae Golden live on air. When asked who he is considering, Favors perked up with "Ohio State" as the first school out of his mouth.

Now, on the eve of a trip to Kansas for the Jayhawk Invitational, Favors is now touting the praises of the National Champions.

The kid sure knows how to gain an audience wherever he goes.

The Badgers did end up getting the commitment for Evan Anderson last night: WSN Basketball

My opinion of him still remains, but I am glad we were able to keep a home grown recruit away from Kansas and Kentucky.

Wisconsin has officially reached their scholarship limit through 2010 as of right now, although I expect that to change almost inevitably.

Maybe you guys could send some players to Indiana so the Big 10 would remain strong like cbf40 would like it to be.:biggrin2:
