OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I see there is a possibility that we might lose a scholarship for the 2008 season. I know we are petitioning that ruling well what difference does it make if we lose a scholarship for that season because we will have extra ones available anyhow. I guess the basis for the petition to have the scholarship restored would be to maintain the integrity of the basketball program. I don't know why they are trying to keep who the individual was that left early when I think everyone knows it was Oden. He was the only one who left school in the middle of Spring quarter. I would hope that Thad might be able to get some type of commitment from these guys who are going to be one and done that day would at least stay eligible through Spring quarter.

Whatever happened to the chart that OBJ (Junkie) did that showed the rosters and available scholarships. It seems to have disappeared from the Recruiting forum.

I'm in the Pritchard (6'9 260) camp if KK leaves.
He doesn't fit the typical 4 role for Matta's offense, but the guy is a load and will battle on the glass. If he gets let out of his LOI from Indy Matta should be on him ASAP.
I remember we were on on Luke Harangody to the end and for whatever reason he chose ND,maybe Matta wasn't as high on him because of his game and he didn't fit the 4 in one out role like Othello Hunter did,but the guy was just named Big East POY as a soph..he just gets it done and that's what we need...Glass eaters and Pritchard has a very similar game.

We'll see ,but I'm watching the Pritchard situation if KK leaves early.

I watched Pritchard in the two games over the weekend and I just don't see it...Right now we already have a guy like Dallas Lauderdale to fill the role that you are looking for...I don't see Pritchard playing a 4 position...He is a post player, has nice solid moves, but not a lot of explosiveness off his feet...JMHO...

I totally agree plus I do not think that he is the type of player that fits into Matta's system for playing the 4 position. Saying that, I think if Kosta leaves we will have to play 4 wings with one big man and Thad will really have to beat the bushes for 2009 4 position players.

It's a long offseason.

Kosta needs to stay. Not even saying this out of pure greed for a title.

He could actually immensely benefit on getting another year.

Any word from him on the future?

The word going around from people close to him is that he is gone...We shall see, maybe not making the tourney and playing along BJ where he will get to play more of the 4 will help him decide to come back...

Thanks for the info but I'm like the rest. He could definetly use another year. Improve his draft stock from a mid 1st to an early 2nd this year or a lottery pick next year. I can think of MILLIONS of reasons for him to stay one more year.:)

If Kosta decides to enter the draft, we will be lacking depth at the power forward spot next year.......

But we will have a lot of depth of wings...Kinda like what Matta likes...

We have Lauderdale and Mullens at the C position who will both provide great defense in the middle...Also have Madsen who with another year in the program I think will be able to give us some time next year, especially if KK leaves and he is our third big guy...

Lighty, Turner, Diebler, Wallace, Buford, Offut to go along with Crater and Hill at the point...

I would expect a more uptempo style to take advantage of our quickness and small lineup and both Mullens and Lauderdale are athletic enough to run...Then we can also slow down and work the post too...We could also play Mullens and Lauderdale at the same time as well, but that might really clog up the middle, but does give us a great inside presence on defense...

We would be better if KK stayed, but I think we will have a top 15 team even if he doesn't stay...

Great class for Ohio this year...Big drop off next year in terms of top tier talent...

I think it is crazy talk to have Mullens as the #3 player in the state...I understand that Buford and Roe are very good players, but Mullens is a game changer in the paint...7'1'' guys like Mullens don't grow on trees...

I would have Mullens, Buford, Roe...Not because Roe is going to MSU either...That is because Buford has shown the ability to score, he has great strength in the upper body, can shoot the ball, and also because while Roe is a very good player, he still showed areas of his game that needed more improvement than what Buford and Mullens need and a year off due to injury hurt his progression, but to still be ranked 3rd in front of guys like Gates and Frease after being injured all year is no small feat...

One other thing a top 25 without the Avery kid from Newark is also crazy...

I guess what concerns me is that if KK does leave early it will hurt us next year and probably the following year in terms of depth in the frontcourt. I know that we will have some very good wing players and that will help when I would think that we would have to play zone defense again just because we might get hurt in certain matchups.

I am also concerned about the fact that we are going to have to have the depend on 3 freshmen next year and you just never know until you get them on the court. I know Mullens and Buford are very gifted but we all saw what happened with Diebler this year. I know that those three are all three different types of players but they will be freshmen and as will Crater which concerns me the most. Having to depend on a freshman PG for significant minutes worries me. I have not seen him play but it is just the fact that he is a freshman.

Even if KK stays for next year. 2009 will be a rough one unless Matta really pull something out of the hat but I guess let's take one year at a time and win the NIT first.

I agree with everything you say, but I try to keep the glass half full instead of half empty...

This year was a little different in terms of frosh as they weren't really superstar material, they are the 3 and 4 year material guys, that will help the program over time and not necessairly a whole lot in their first year...

I maybe on some good drugs, but I truly believe that Crater/Hill combo is going to be just fine for us...Maybe I am crazy, but I truly believe that with the options we are going to have on the wing that we will be just fine with those two manning the point, creating some and taking care of the ball, and not looking for them to score...
