OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

osu has been kicking around the tires for over a year now since greer was initially a 2020 recruit before delaying to 2021. the recent 2021 or 2020 comment is interesting. greer's plan to play this summer and then make a decision would fit osu's schedule if carton departs.

edit: greer's 247 composite is 224th. this is wrong by at least 100 spots.

Lynn Greer remains undecided on his college enrollment date
Lynn Greer made news earlier this year by putting off his college decision. No, it wasn’t that he just decided against signing last month, but rather that he will take a prep year after graduating this spring, thus placing him into the 2021 class.

“I just feel like I can do better than what I did this past summer,” he said about his decision to move into the 2021 class. “Just having that extra chance is good for me. I feel like I am one of the top players in the country and that I can show it.”

Florida, Georgetown, Marquette, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Temple are among the schools most actively recruiting Greer, he told Rivals.com.

...

Set on graduating in the spring before beginning a prep year in the fall, there is always a chance that he could remain in his original class. “Georgetown has said they are going to recruit me for either year, Ohio State has said either year, and Nebraska has talked to me about going 2020,” Greer stated. “I am going to play this summer out first and then see where things stand.”

efton reid (2021)

247 profile

big-time official visit this weekend. as far as i can tell, it's efton reid's first junior-year official. ho1tmann and pedon visited him yesterday. offer likely imminent.

should start a thread for reid since an osu offer has almost certainly been extended. probably will wait for something official, though. kinda like that reid prefers to play his recruitment close to the vest. also like that osu is the first school out of his mouth. throw in that osu was reid's first official visit and, well, the buckeyes look to be in a very good spot. if reid stays in 2021, expect osu to be one of the finalists on decision day.

Five-star junior Efton Reid talks his recruitment, possibly reclass to 2020?
...

For me, Efton Reid is one of the most underrated talents in the country regardless of class. 247Sports currently has him ranked 27th in the country for his class but only has two offers listed. His mother told Stockrisers.com that he has over 30 offers.

...

Jake: What programs are currently on you the hardest?

Efton: “Schools that are recruiting me the hardest are Ohio State, UVA, Georgetown, Iowa State, NC State and Miami. Louisville as well.”

there are still some 2021 players whom osu has offered but do not have their own threads, though i think each offer has been posted in this catch-all recruiting thread. unless someone else wants to start the threads, i'm holding off until there is further interest between the two parties (e.g., as with trevor keels). i doubt carter whitt will need a thread since moochie committed to osu. i can see further interest in bryce hopkins and certainly julian roper. perhaps michael foster, too.

maybe whitt needs a thread. he's another 2021 point guard who may reclassify to 2020, which could become a priority for osu this spring and summer. staff looking like they don't want to be mike conley'd.

Carter Whitt weighs reclassifying, working on visits
The 2020 class continues to get stronger because of the influx of recruits willing to reclassify up a grade. Carter Whitt is among the 2021 names that is considering the option.

“I’m not sure yet, either way I’m going to make that decision probably after the season but going to see how the season goes and see if I’m ready to go to college or not,” Whitt explained at the John Wall Holiday Invitational.

“If I’m ready to go in and contribute and I see a situation and a playing style and a coach that I think is a good fit then yeah that is an opportunity that I will look for,” Whitt said.

Whitt said Ohio State, N.C. State, Nebraska, Indiana, Boston College, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech have consistently been in contact with him. Thus far he’s taken an official visit to Boston College, plus unofficial visits to Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. White discussed those three visits:

...

“I’m setting one right now with Nebraska and I think I’m going to set one with Ohio State,” Whitt said.

@OSU_Buckguy I do not quite understand where we are going to get the scholarships from for the players that you are mentioning since we are already over signed for 2020 and I would think that we are looking at Branham for the 2021 class in addition to a big man such as Duncomb, Bediako,……. I have no idea where we stand for any of these guys but it seems like we have been in on some guys longer than others. I certainly know that you know more about where we stand with certain guys and maybe you do not think we have a very good chance at the Ohio guys for 21. I do not mind creating threads for recruits. In fact, I sort of enjoy it. Just give me the word.

1. yeah, we are over the limit by one for 2020-21. i think the staff is just preparing for the likelihood of kaleb departing and the possibility of carton departing.

if carton joins kaleb, then we'll undoubtedly need another point guard for next season. since walker will be a senior who can handle the bulk of the minutes at the 1, we don't need a grad-transfer point guard. moreover, signing whitt or greer for 2020-21 (providing they reclassify) would be better for the 2021-22 team since we wouldn't be relying on meechie and another true freshman, which sounds like a recipe for a meal full of problems. i don't want to assume that we're always going to have another conley, craft, or carton.

if carton returns for his sophomore year, which looks to me as probable right now, then the staff will have lost nothing by recruiting whitt, greer, etc. and it's not like whitt or greer will necessarily reclassify to 2020.

i think the 2021 recruiting class will be 4-deep with meechie, a shooting guard, etzler, and a post player. if carton leaves after his sophomore season, i'd prefer the fifth player be a grad transfer at the point. as stated, signing another 2021 true-freshman point guard looks a bit hairy.

2. oh my, i don't know more than anyone else. i'm certainly not "in the know." just looking at the bits and pieces we're given and assuming stuff from that. no doubt that i'm wrong far more often than i'm right. but thanks for the kind words (from you and a couple other recent posters).

3. you certainly don't need the word from me to start a thread on whitt. i know i've hinted a few times that i may start one, but pretty much the only reason i haven't is because i'm too lazy.

If Jallow redshirts it is really going to make 2021 recruiting... Interesting. I think Jallow could have great value as a 5th year player, so I'm not down on that at all, but we could end up in a scholarship bind with a bunch of wings, one PG in true frosh Meechie (if Carton is gone by then, and that's feeling like 90 percent to me), and betting heavy on Key and Diallo in the post. Branham is the top priority it seems, and I get that, but feels to me like we REALLY need an elite PG/CG (or top grad transfer PG) and an elite big in the class. I am not ruling out another early entry or two but we won't likely know about it before next early signing period, so really filling out the class as much as the staff seems to want is going to depend on transfers or spring recruiting.

You probably hit the nail on the head with that statement. The '21 recruiting class is going to be all about who is on the roster. Almost all of it will depend upon early departures whether it be transfers, Europe, or the NBA. If any of these guys play like they did against WVU none of them will be going anywhere or should I say no one will want them.

I was going to start a thread on him but during my research:) I started thinking that he was a lot like etzler physically but probably a better shooter. I also could not tell if he had a "offer" or not:wink:
i've seen nothing to indicate that camden has received an offer. don't think that this is another unpublicized offer as with efton reid. there is plenty of interest, though. perhaps one is imminent. don't know.

albeit probably nothing, it's peculiar that pedon just followed donovan williams, who is the 4-star shooting guard who very recently decommitted from nebraska. williams is a 2020 player. williams has followed back the twitter accounts of the programs who have ostensibly reached out to him. ohio state is one of those follows.

williams isn't the first 2020 recruit that pedon has followed in the last couple weeks. here is the other: johan crafoord. heck, the staff also recently reached out to zaire wade.

can't help but wonder if kaleb and one other player will depart after this season. maybe the staff is preparing for the possibility of carton showcasing himself as a draft prospect. so far, though, i wouldn't even have dj in the second round. he's first gotta show that he can reliably run an offense. in other words, he's first gotta show that he's a point guard. i know the nba draft is first and foremost about potential, but still. nonetheless, as i've stated before, if kaleb and a player depart, i hope the staff instead goes after a grad-transfer frontcourt player. the 2020-21 team projects to be too good (as in, championship good) to rely on a project and a 3-star true freshman at center.
tape is a 6'10" pf/c. staff making preliminary moves as if kaleb might not be the only post-season shakeup. interesting.
