OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

yeah, pulling sturdivant from the southeast and harris from the mid-atlantic will be a challenge. as is, of course, pulling carton from ann arsehole. i'm confident that we'll get someone, but i can't say i'm confident in any particular player. heck, i might put even odds on the guard we get being a guard we've yet to offer.

first things first, i just want to see some official visits. we can go from there.

are we confident in Penn for the '20 class?

penn going elsewhere would surprise me. what gives me any pause is dom possibly not being enthused about going to the hometown school where his dad works. i know i'd want my space if not a change of scenery, too. perhaps scoonie moves on to take an assistant coaching job elsewhere before 2020. what he's doing now is only temporary.

he's not a 2019 player, but this is interesting for at least a few reasons and not too surprising:

pedon has just started following amir harris, who is a 2018 combo guard (6'5") from maryland. ranked 392nd (247 composite), he has picked up offers this week from cal and nebraska after offers from oksu and rhode island, among others. very athletic with a competent handle and really good vision. aggressive defender. wonder if the ranking is due to turnovers and lack of outside shot. can't recall the last time i saw a highlight package of a guard without a single jumper.

Amir Harris committed to Nebraska. As we discussed, the kid has a lot of developing to do, especially with his shooting. But there is definitely the potential there for him to be an absolute terror in the B1G before it is all said and done.

stanford has gotten 5 crystal balls for tyrell terry in just over a day. writing appears on the wall. there hasn't been much happening between terry and ohio state anyway, so it's not a big deal. the lack of interest since terry labeled osu as one of the programs pursuing him the hardest is odd, though. we pretty much left the scene during his season.

updated 2019 rankings from 247

notable players:

8. isaiah stewart (+15)
9. keion brooks (+7)
12. josiah james (+8)
21. Jackson-davis (+3)
23. carton (+14)
38. cockburn (+17)
39. gaffney (-21)
43. nnaji (+140)
50. francis (same)
63. williams (+45)
73. harris (+1)
74. sturdivant (+56)
77. timme (+14)
79. beverly (-13)
82. williamson (+130)
83. liddell (-23)
88. terry (+151)
92. curtis (+50)
103. shannon (same)
131. franklin (-26)
161. gillis (-8)
166. mitchell (-89)
179. gordon (-8)
232. guess (same)
244. davis (-84)
245. corbin (same)

the huge jumps for nnaji, williamson, and terry are by no means surprising. same goes for williams and sturdivant. gaffney's drop doesn't surprise me, either. he needs to bring it more consistently. such is often the case for floating 4s.

mentioned garvin clarke in the zeb jackson thread. really, really like him. hope he gets offered. if we're getting a point guard and it's not penn, then my guy is clarke all day long. bonus points to anyone who can pinpoint the barely noticeable play that made me rewind about 10 times...

Casual spin bounce pass between defenders on a 3v2 is nice.

Also liked splitting the backcourt double team and then the dribble contact and finish on the last play. Love PGs that dribble create. Looks good

garvin clarke showcases one thing that i like about steady point guards: low dribbling. guards who dribble too high tend to be high-risk creators. it's what i didn't like so much about elijah weaver last year, and i think it's something that muhammad needs to work on. a guy like clarke, though, will rarely get pick-pocketed and also more easily break you down with frequent changes of tempo, a la mike conley. garvin has that on-a-string, in-a-phone-booth kind of game.
