So you think Enes Kanter was a 1 & done? I think most people would say no, since he never actually played in college and was never allowed to. Kanter's eligibility never started. The 1 implies actually playing 1 year. Being ineligible to play does not count as a year of college basketball.
Kanter was a one and done talent which is really what was being discussed before the tangent of what defines a one and done player. Miles Bridges was a one and done talent. He could have declared after one year and been an NBA lottery pick, but chose to return. That is not what Spellman did or is doing (again, he hasn't hired an agent or made a decision yet, though it looks like he'd be a late first round pick if he stayed in). He simply wasn't good enough to get drafted in his first year of draft eligibility. Another oddity on Spellman is that he will be 21 in a couple of months and would have been eligible for the NBA draft 2 years ago had he stayed in his original high school class (switched from 9th grade to 8th grade when he transferred schools).
I think to call someone a one and done, they need to enter and be drafted (at least in the first round) in the first year they are eligible for the draft. I wouldn't call Kanter or Bridges one and done players because Kanter never played college ball and Bridges chose to stay 2 years. Both however were talented enough to be drafted in the first year of draft eligibility, something Spellman was not.
