Early in the third, the Falcons cut the lead to one just 34 seconds after Peter Boyd had put Ohio State up by two goals. Bowling Green then had the would-be game-tying goal disallowed at 12:16 because the net had moved before the puck crossed the line. Boyd regained the Buckeyes? two-goal lead with a goal at 14:23 and Tommy Dee responded for the Falcons just 27 seconds later, but BG could get no closer.

Men's hockey: Ohio State-Alaska preview
Matchup to watch: Alaska goaltender Chad Johnson, a Pittsburgh Penguins prospect and a CCHA first-team selection, leads the league in goals-against average (1.69) and save percentage (.939). He kept the Buckeyes silent in their first game this season but was pulled after allowing four goals in 11 minutes in the second game. Ohio State has been hot the past four games, scoring 23 goals. If Ohio State can keep the pressure on Johnson and score two or three goals, it should be enough because Alaska does not have the type of offense to come back from a big deficit. The Nanooks average less than two goals.
Notable: Senior forward Corey Elkins leads the Buckeyes with 40 points. He is the first Buckeye to reach 40 points since Tom Fritsche and Rod Pelley in the 2004-05 season. Sophomore John Albert needs one point to reach 40 for the season. Ohio State leads the series 22-19-3. The Buckeyes are 8-13-2 in Fairbanks. Ohio State is 9-35 in road playoff games. Ohio State and Alaska have met twice in the CCHA playoffs. The Buckeyes won in 1995 and 2002. ... Alaska is playing host to a series for the first time since 2004. The winner advances to a CCHA semifinal next Friday in Detroit against the winner of the series between Nebraska-Omaha and Notre Dame.
Buckeyes hoping to go distance
The Ohio State men's hockey team arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska, late Wednesday. It went straight to the ice rink for a light practice that ended at 2 a.m. Eastern time. After a 3,600-mile flight, the Buckeyes needed to stretch their legs.
Ohio State was unable to get a good practice in during its trip there six weeks ago. Weather delays lengthened its trip to 32 hours, and fatigue was apparent in the first game against Alaska, a 4-1 loss.
This time, the Buckeyes will have a full day to get in more practice and get acclimated to the four-hour time difference. Those things, they say, will have them ready tonight for a Central Collegiate Hockey Association quarterfinal series against the Nanooks.
