Oregon St. +11.5 at Utah (ov/un 53.5)

Wow, did Oregon State piss away that game. They should have been up 9, and then they would have been up 2 fielding an onside kick at midfield with about 1:25 left, instead of being in a tie game and starting on their own 20-yard line. Then I think they used 13 seconds before having to punt it back, and Utah didn't even have to use any timeouts to get the ball back at just outisde their own 45 with 2 timeouts and the wind at their backs.

A fortuitous PI call on the 2-point conversion helped Utah, though. The guy stopped his route because the pass was 3 yards behind him, and probably uncatchable. But the defender bumped into the guy that put on the brakes, and the ref away from the play tossed in the flag after it looked for a second that it wasn't going to be called.

The Mountain West owns the Pac-10 this year.

A common complaint that I have heard about Riley since I moved out here has been that he gets too conservative at the ends of games. This isn't the first time it's bit him.

In this game it was just the opposite. He was way too aggressive going for two point conversions when he really had no business doing so. Take the points, see how the game shapes up in the 4th quarter and adjust accordingly. At least those complaining that he's too conservative don't have an argument anymore

Well, if the last minute and a half count, he lost because he got the ball at his own 20 in a tie game ith less than 1:30 left; and used about 13 seconds before having to punt to a team that still had two timeouts because Oregon State stopped the clock on each play. He apparently gave no thought to what would happen if his team failed to get a first down. So he lost that game by not being conservative in the last minute and a half, when he could have run the ball and probably gone into OT.

I'd start it with the idiotic pooch kick off. He should have had the kicker pummel it as hard as he could. Utah wasn't exhibiting any major run-back potential from what I saw (mostly second half stuff). I realize that one relies on their defense, but hell, they were almost to half field.

I do understand what you're saying about that series. I was completely dumbfounded not just with the passing play calls, but the fact that the receivers were primarily running routes short of the first down marker. I just don't understand what the hell they were thinking in the last two to three minutes period. I'd really like to know what "Ole" defense they were playing on the last touchdown drive by Utah.
